Hm, maybe I should put it in perspective for you. ...It's like, having a pet you found lost on the street. You're with the pet for a long time, but then one day you find the original owner and decide you need to return the animal to them. It's the right thing to do and you can be happy for helping, but you still feel sad about seeing the animal go. Get what I mean?
