Some people say that to assume is to make an ass of you and me. I am guilty of assuming many things, as do almost everyone else, but here I just want to rant about people who make an ass of themselves and I.
Words are the most common way people do it, and words are one of the most ambiguous ways of communication., whether it's textual (email, IM) or verbal. I wish there was a way to know the True Meaning (tm) of someone's words. Whoever invents a device or methodology for that will know the meaning of life be revered/well hated.
Next is the assumptions of my actions, whether or not the person sees me doing it where the context is unknown to the person, or just assuming the things I could be doing at a certain time. People do this all the time and it's fine if they assume something and do not change their perception/opinion of me.
However, assuming something and subsequently feeling negative emotions towards me is what really pisses me off. If one knows for certain what I'm doing and gets mad/upset, then I can't evade it since I'm guilty of it. If one ASSumes that I'm doing something and then gets mad/upset even though I'm not really doing that thing, then I'm going to lash back and say: "WTF? I will not apologize or make corrective actions because I didn't do that thing that you assumed I did." When this happens frequently enough, I will stop caring about what that person thinks of me. I won't bother to explain myself to that person again. I mean, what's the point?
Some people assume too much for their own good. >.<
One final thought: don't assume that I am talking about you. This rant applies to everyone in general but if you think you are guilty of it, you know what to do.
