Between shoveling snow yesterday and a 6 am wake up call this morning, I'm a'hurtin'. This whole "Texas John on tour" business is brutal, physically and spiritually. I think that leading worship and playing at multiple communities and events is starting to get to me. Don't get me wrong. I'm stoked to be doing the work I'm doing, but the ( Read more... )

What in the h*** is going on?!? I go to Vermont for a couple days and I come back and my Texan roommate has become a New Englander???
I thought that I would see the day when John would praise the Backstreet boys before I would see him praise the snow in Foxboro.
Now I must admit that I am a New Englander (I was born in New Hampshire and I have lived in Mass. for the past 12 years) and I am nowhere even close to praising the snow we have seen this winter. It is beautiful. I will grant you that, but you can have all this snow. I just drove through Vermont and New Hampshire today and yes it was stunningly beautiful - and you can still have all this snow. I'm going to Maryland next week because I can't take any more snow...

What you didn't read, dearest roomie, is that I was looking in aesthetic wonder at the snow from my car where the heater was cranked and I estimate the resultant temperature at about 85 degrees. One might also note that I used the word "awed" to describe my emotion and, in fact, a biblical Hebrew synonym for "awesome" is "terrible"; still quite appropriate here. A quote from Louie Giglio on such linguistics:

"Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that to stand in awe can mean to be terrified. In Hebrew the word for awesome could easily be translated into terrible. Now I think that's kind of cool. It'll never really catch on these days:
[singing] 'Our God is a terrible God, He reigns from heaven above, with wisdom power and love...'"

That's funny that you have a "God Book." And really good too. Sometimes (and by sometimes I mean a lot of the time) I forget that it's all in God's control anyhow, and I forget to just surrender. So your livejournal entry reminded me not to fight God (which was quite appropriate for today!) Go you!
