Claire was a little surprised when Martha told her that she would come to New York to see her and she decided it was really sweet too.  She had to admit that it was easy to talk to Martha, it was comforting in a lot of ways and painful in a couple others.  Martha made her think of her own mom and it reminded her that it was hard to be away from

Martha was more than happy to leave work early - the maddening and infuriating chaos of the campaign office was turning her into a person she didn't like very much.

When she spoke to Claire, she decided that the young girl seemed very alone, and though she had been giving her advice for awhile now, the best thing she could do for her was to be there. So she enlisted the help of her son and the two headed to New York to pay their friend a visit.

They found the place rather easily, and as they waited at the front door, she turned to smooth down Clark's collar and told him to stand up straight, in typical maternal fashion.

Clark barely refrains from rolling his eyes. "Mom, it's Claire. I doubt she'll care if my collar's perfect."

With that, he reaches over his mother to knock lightly on the door. "I hope she doesn't mind that I tagged along."

Claire didn't know how she felt alone at times, considering she was married and she had her friends around but it was different at times. It was nice to connect with someone who could understand her position fully.

Hearing the knock on the door, she pushed off the couch and moved to answer the door. Pulling it open, she smiled at the sight of them, surprised but pleased to see Clark. Leaning against the door frame, she gave a slight smile, "Did we ever decide on a code word?" She teased Clark and then looked at Martha, "Hello."

"Hi, sweetheart. I hope it's okay that we're here now, I got out of work as soon as I could."

Then she looks past her through the doorway, like a typical nosy mom. "Nice place."
