Oh, I like the implied complexes here. Ed, you're an awesome character, but you would make Freud go into hardcore ferret shock at the shiny of all the complexes you have, srsly.

It's a stylistic preference, and your way's just as valid, but food for thought, this part might read smoother in other ways:

Hmm, good job on catching those~ ;) My favorite characters tend to have quite a few complexes, and it's fun to sneak them into fics.

As for the preference: I usually do opt for the -- rather than the parantheses, but in this instance it felt more natural to use them because I wasn't going for smooth. I wanted that bit to stand out a bit more, rather than flow with the rest of the fic. :)
