I think the US government would have become more popular in the short run if it made the economy (and mainly employment) its only priority until it was, like, fixed. Not that they would not have to make various decisions about other things that come up - things always come up. But not pushing anything else, not starting to talk about anything ( Read more... )

You sure are thinking far ahead. I think the debt bomb may explode already by 2012. But I have repeatedly underestimated the ability of Americans to just keep borrowing, so I may well be wrong again.

See, that's my point. The election took place during a total eclipse of the economy. A temporary panic, which was widely blamed on the party in power. The only real mandate the current administration has is to fix the economy.
