Friday was our -15 night, per weather.uchicago.edu, which is similar if not the descendant of weathorr.

I heard an unsubstantiated rumor that it got down to -30 in Chi-town at one point.

It was that cold in the traditionally chilly Sugar Grove/Aurora area. The lowest recorded temperature in Chicago was -27 at O'Hare in 1985--it may have been colder there in the past, but the official thermometer was either at Midway, here on campus, or downtown, all warmer places.
