I notice a lot of folks calling Torcwood 'CoE' instead. There's always a momentary brain pause when I see it because CoE means Church of England to me [g] Thought I'd share ( Read more... )

We didn't have AC when I was growing up, so we were very strict about limiting heat-producing activities in the house. We used to keep the toaster out on the deck and cook dinner outside on a camp stove. Mom called it her "summer kitchen." :)

What does CoE stand for in Torchwood-land?

If we didn't have A/C, the stove wouldn't add to the heat of the room, I know this from recent A/C lessness! When it's 100+ it's just damn hot all around. But with A/C, it really does make the kitchen hotter. I'm hoping we can get a gas grill next year so I can do more cooking outside. And UV shielding on the kitchen windows. We have a huge floor to ceiling window in there and it just makes the kitchen bake.

It's stands for 'Children of Earth' which is the subtitle of this mini series.

We had all kinds of draconian heat-controlling measures. :) Here in southern Indiana it gets very humid, too, so controlling humidity was a big thing. (It got so humid that if we didn't run a dehumidifier, the downstairs carpet would mildew!) We used to leave the windows open overnight and in the morning to let in cool air, and then seal everything up as soon as it started to get hot. And we kept the curtains closed to keep the sun out.

It's been odd getting used to living in a bone dry climate. First time ever I've had to use a humidifier. Speaking of which, it needs refilled!

G.I. Joe was a comic book? When?

Growing up, I read Nick Fury and the Howling Commandoes and The Haunted Tank, and played with my brothers' GI Joe whenever I could get away with it (what can I say? Ken was a wimp! Barbie wanted a real man to go out with. Plus, I really liked the red-headed fuzzy GI Joe). What was really fun, though, was playing with all the neat accessories, like the idol with the secret opening full of treasure, guarded by the white cobra. Now that was fun!

>We finished rewatching John Adams.

We watched that recently, too. It was just excellent! One of my favorite movies is 1776. This was like learning the background of my favorite character from that.

It really is excellent. Enjoyed it as much the second go round as the first.

The carnitas sound good! Did you like the bread book and has the other one been delivered? There's no tracking system for that one.

The bread book is nifty! Nope, no sign of the other one yet, but will let you know when it gets here :)
