First Crush

Jul 06, 2007 10:39

Before there was Methos, there was Adam. No, not that one [g] The first TV crush I recall having was when I was about five, and the object of my affection was Adam Cartwright on Bonanza. Always being different, I didn't like Little Joe at all, even though he was the show heart throb.

When I was five, the Cartwright brother who made the biggest impact on me was Hoss. Don't laugh. See, back then I had a speech impediment ... of sorts. (Now I recognize it as a Gaelic accent but I have absolutely NO idea why a child born in Maine and raised in New Hampshire would have a Gaelic accent) - and I couldn't say the word hospital. It came out more like ospadal (and I think the accent was on the wrong syllable too). My siblings laughed at me, so I practiced saying it by remembering Hoss Cartwright's name. (Hoss-pee-til).

I still have a tendresse for the gentle giant sort of male. The only times I saw 21 Jump Street, it was Peter DeLuise's character that drew me - and I felt the same when he joined seaQuest second season - even though it meant the end of his lovely hair.

OTOH, big, beefy jock-types turn me right off.

oh, and btw, my first crush was Robin of the old campy Batman series. But I didn't want to date him, I wanted to be LIKE him.

Oh, I loved Hoss! He was the one I wanted to be my big brother :) He was probably my favourite overall character.

Ahhh... Pernell Roberts.

I think I used to have a thing for him when he was Trapper John, MD... Or was that just because I had a thing for Lynn Redgrave?

It was a given to be watching it in my house, as my stepfather was a MAJOR M*A*S*H fan... Of course, that's because his best friend's dad knew the author of the book [and claims to be part of the amalgam of one of the characters, tho' I can't remember which one any longer]...

He's quite the dish. But you know (boy now) that the Barkley Boys held *my* heart. ;-)

While he was indeed cute, and that played a part, I had more of a crush in his personality.

Purnell Roberts! *sigh* Very, very pretty. I was more drawn to Heath, though. *g*

My first fangirl crush? Why, that would be this guy:

That's a show I don't remember seeing, though that surprises me since it would be something that my mum would watch. Okay, it was on from 64-68, and I was born in 63. I probably did see it near the end of its run, but just don't recall.

I do remember the Saint and the Avengers though.

Mine too! I still have the doll! As far as Bonanza, count me in as a Hoss fan too!

He is quite attractive, isnt he?

I remember not being able to make up my mind who I liked. I was so used to seeing Michael Landon as Laura Ingall's father that to see him in a younger incarnation on Bonanza kind of gave me a squick factor.

And when I watched Bonanza, I was always looking for DeForest Kelly because he was supposed to have been in a few episodes...

And then I developed a thing for the guy in The Rifleman....

I miss Saturday morning westerns.

I remember thinking, "Little Joe is going to be Pa??!?!?" LOL I was quite distressed about it at the time.
