The Hobbit

Have seen it twice, and generally enjoyed it, but, of course, I have some nits to pick! And if you've never read the Hobbit and/or other related Tolkien writings, there will be spoilers for what may come in the next two installments.

Being the semi-disgruntled musings of a Tolkien fangirl.... )

I went to watch it this past Saturday with my mother - she so wanted to see it. And I will admit that I like it a lot. Even with the major differences from the book. One can tell he or she knows waaaaaay to much about Tolkien's books and timelines that that person nitpicks everything. I did that myself during the movie!!

My favorite is still the Elves...and Elrond. I LOVE Hugo Weaving. Can't wait to see Thranduil full-on as well as Legolas. I'm addicted.

The actor who plays Thorin? That's Richard Armitage. I only know that because he played Sir Guy of Gisborne in the recent BBC series of Robin Hood. Lasted only three seasons but it was good. And he is sexy in that show!

Saw it on Sunday and I really enjoyed it. It may be an advantage that I haven't re-read the book in a long time as I didn't have to think thing so much and just enjoy the movie as a whole.

But it is so nice visiting with old friends along with loving the detail and magnificence they go through to make these.

Gonna have to go see it again on the big screen as it's worth it. Can't do 3D however due to my vision problems but that's okay.

I haven't read the book in a while, but I sure didn't remember Azog. I found him afterwards in the appendices. I guess if they didn't have Azog, this movie wouldn't have any villain. All we see of Smaug is a half second of a tail, a half second of a claw, and two seconds of an eye.

"while I'm not familiar with the actor playing Thorin, after this, I'm more than willing to get familiar :D"

Get BBC's North & South, where he plays a gruff, brooding owner of a cotton processing plant in the North, who meets a girls from the South when she and her family move once her minister father becomes disillusioned by the Church. I stayed up all night just to see it all play out. It was all my sister's fault anyway!
