Well according to my mother I'm "socially retarded". She didn't mean it, when she saw I was upset she took it back. I know it was only a throw away line, but it still really hurts

The trick is not to care. It's really easy to take your family for granted. When you take people for granted you act like shit to them. Therefore, make sure you don't care what he thinks, act like it, and he'll probably start acting better towards you.
Oh, and you're not socially retarded. Just a poor manipulator.
I don't try to, nor do I want to manipulate Yiri. You know me better than that. Manipulation will always have negative connotations, you manipulate to gain a personal advantage. I do not approve of that. I will never approve of that.
And I do care, because he is my brother. I do care because it impacts on how close I can be to my family. I really do love my family. They may be suffocating, or don't understand, but they love me and have always been there for me. My parents are some of the wisest people I know, and I respect them deeply.
Maybe it is lame, maybe my feelings are unfounded, but that doesn't negate the fact that they are my feelings, and I doubt my feelings are going to change.
"manipulate" doesn't always have negative connotations. The definition I use in this context is as follows:
manipulate |məˈnipyəˌlāt| verb [ trans. ] 2 control or influence (a person or situation) cleverly, unfairly, or unscrupulously
Notice the OR. I recommend that you act cleverly.
It is evident that you need to be in greater control of and exerting influence over the situation. Preventing behaviour such as you have outlined is advantageous to all concerned.
If you care, you at least need to give the contrary impression; you're currently giving one that makes you look vulnerable and weak.
By allowing behaviour such as this to continue you're not doing anyone any favours, least of all yourself.
