“Uncle Peter?” Little fingers latched onto my shoulder and shook me. I didn’t want to wake up. I was so tired, and every bit of me hurt. I popped one eye open a crack to see what Simon and/or Monty wanted. But it wasn’t either of them. This kid was blond, and he had maple syrup on his face and sticky fingers.

“Noah?” I scooted up into the corner of the sofa and scrubbed my eyes.

“Abracadabra!” He squealed and turned around to race into the kitchen. His tail was wagging furiously behind him. It was just like Claire’s dog’s tail, and he had the ears to match too.

“Dreaming. I’m dreaming.” I rolled off of the sofa, tripping on a pile of sledgehammers and cracked my knee on the floor with a yelp.

“Of course you are, Peter.” Sylar leaned over me. He was dressed in his black coat. His dark eyes were filled with fire and death, and he sneered down at me. “Isn’t that what you keep telling me? It’s all a dream, Sylar!”

“Fuck you,” I grumbled as I got to my feet. Noah Muggles was hopping up and down in the kitchen begging to bits of waffles from his father. He was begging with Gabriel. Gabriel, who wanted to be my brother. It felt good to see them playing and laughing.

“That’s never going to happen. I won’t let it.” Sylar dropped down to sit on the arm of the sofa, stretching out his long legs to keep me from Gabriel and Noah. “I will not turn into that no matter how much you want me to. You’d be better off wishing on a star or praying for Nathan to come back to you.”

I opened my mouth to tell him to fuck off again when the door flew open. The dark haired Claire came in with her team and they circled around Gabriel and Noah. They kept demanding to know where I was, and Gabriel wouldn’t tell them.

“They can’t see us,” Sylar said. “We’re in our own little world. Sit back enjoy the show. I love the part where they kill the kid. I mean seriously, can you imagine me with a kid?”

“No,” I snorted as I tried to step over his legs, only to have him trip me on purpose. I hit the floor hard again. This time with my chin, and my mouth filled with blood from biting my tongue. “I really can’t.”

Sylar grabbed me by the back of the neck like I weighed nothing and turned me so I could watch Knox do the same to Noah. Gabriel screamed and tried to get to Noah, but Daphne ran circles around him, holding him in place. He held the little boy over his head and threw him into the refrigerator hard enough to dent it.

“Where’s Peter?” Claire demanded again and again. “Tell me, and I’ll heal him.”

Gabriel broke away from Daphne and cradled Noah’s broken body in his hands, and I saw them start to glow. Sylar held me tight, and I could feel the heat in his hands growing too. As Gabriel’s grew brighter, so did Sylar’s. It was burning through my thin shirt, making my skin blister and boil.

“Not just mine,” Sylar chuckled into my ear. “Yours too, all three of us at once. Think of all the people we’ll kill.”

“NOOO!!!!” I screamed, looking down to see my bones glowing through my skin. I fought the dream. I didn’t want to see this. Didn’t want to feel it. It wasn’t real. “This isn’t real! Gabriel! No!!!!”

Warm hands touched my stomach, and I grabbed at them with mine. I shivered, trying to wake up, and I found Sylar kneeling on the floor next to the sofa. All around me the endless sea of clocks were ticking in perfect sync. Usually it drove me nuts, but right now it meant I was safe. It meant I was home. Out of my nightmare and back into Sylar’s.
