You might have noticed that the number of submissions has decreased and that recently there has been one extension after another. The recent manga development hasn't managed to increase any interest in this icontest, thus my post ( Read more... )

I love this comm and would love to provide shiny icons for the themes...however I'm always struck with the same issue - I haven't the effingest clue where to get images. Or at least I don't want to icon the same images I have over and over again. ;____;

I'm sure you know how big Naruto is - searching for Itachi images through ever episode in hopes that maybe there's a flashback or some random appearance would be like looking for the needle in a haystack.

This is actually the only problem which prevents me from submitting so if you could, maybe, give me some image sources for him or even post image themes once in a while, I would love to participate! ♥

I can help with that :D Try minitokyo.net. There should be a lot of images and all you need is some patience to browse through them all. Just avoid wallpapers, please, and focus on scans instead. I could also provide you with my personal collection which mostly consist of official promotional pictures, some screenshots from the very first part of Naruto and quite a few coloured manga panels if you're interested. 0mega19x is offering their help in the thread bellow, too :)

My one regret - only discovering this community a couple months ago.

I wish I would have known about it sooner, when more people were interested in it.

And Royalbk, I've been screencapping youtube videos for a lot of my images. There are so many AMVs with Itachi footage in them, it's practically a gold mine. They do all the work of sorting through the episodes, you just pause and print screen at appropriate moments.

I passed your message to royalbk as they might miss your thread.

You are the person I mentioned in the post, so I have no complaints about your participation here. Keep up the good job :) I only regret that you haven't had any chance to participate in a serious contest here as we were already short on submissions when you joined. By serious I mean at least 3-4 people participating, and a full voting being put up. It's more fun then and it forces participants to be more and more creative every time they submit their entries.

Definitely i had noticed myself as well, but i wasn't sure if it was really my place to say anything...but since you want some discussion, on the matter, i can't help myself lol.
i'm not sure how to pull in more interested icon makers (i would myself, but i really have no time) beyond advertising over and over again to Naruto communities. But one suggestion i do have is the fanart rule about using only one fanart icon in submissions. Maybe that could be temporarily alleviated since fanart of Itachi is far more abundant that actual/official screens of him.

But maybe reminding people that were are here and still wanting to remain active is all that we really need to do.

Well... it is your place to say something if you notice such a thing happen :P I tried to delude myself that the things weren't that bad... But it's not that I can do it forever ( ... )

lol i think i might have tried to trick myself too--too bad it didn't work ._.;

And i understand, i suppose i hadn't thought about it, since i always ask before using fanart, and also be because we required credit of fanart pictures. i wasn't thinking broad enough @__@

i could go to advertising every other week, or every three weeks or so, to see if that attracts more iconmakers. But i know where you're coming from, everyone i know doesn't have time anymore (including me) or stopped making icons almost all together. i really don't want to see this community fall into obscurity ;__; and it'll be even sadder if there's nothing we can do about it.

No one can fool themselves forever, huh?

I think that no one really thought broad enough about this when fanarts were allowed here for the first time. Or maybe I should rather say that one predicted such an outcome. It seemed worked just fine for a short while and then "bam" - it went out of control.

This seems to be a really good idea :) I think that advertising every three weeks or so would be better, though, as it wouldn't cause accusations of "spamming".
Everyone seems to have the same problem, don't they? I also kind of quit icon making business before it became clear that this incontest would die without my more direct involvement.
