And oh man, I totally remember watching that when it was ON. LIVE. And I didn't even like the band then! (Well, except for always secretly liking "Helena".) I just remembered hearing a lot about how their new album was going to be this amazing concept record and it was like, the THING to watch (come to think, I'm pretty sure that's the last year I ever sat down with purpose to watch the VMAs), and I was like, well, I like concept records, maybe this will be cool even though it's that band? And I do actually remember thinking it was a cool song and the performance was awesome, but I never followed up after that. FAIL, SELF.
Yeah, I clearly remembered it all in my head and I was like, need to watch again! :D
I did. And haha well, as I said, I wasn't a fan of the band! I had just come off a streak of being really mean about them, actually (my friends and I in college would ask each other if we were WHOA-kay, because that song annoyed us so much.. I KNOW). So yeah, no follow up. Mad at myself for it now, of course, but at the same time, I don't think the band would mean the same thing to me that they do now if I had come to them too early. I had to be ready for them.
I do! It's one of my favorite icons.
I think it's probably because no one has any good quality video, so the gifts would look like shit. This is before all TV was filmed in HD.. and before anyone recorded to a dvd player or their hard drive.. it probably got on the internet after somebody ripped it from a video tape, no joke. Weird how that was only 6 fucking years ago. Technology has moved so fucking fast.
Oh I get that about it being the right time... I wouldn't have had the context or the background to love them as much as I do now it i'd somehow fallen into Bandom just in time for this/back then.
Although I did have the benefit(?) of being so musically unknowing that I'd never heard of them or anything of theirs like, EVER. (Except for that one SGA video set to wttbp in like...08)
I'd rather have TIME TRAVEL and current-day-me get to see them. Sorry past!self. You wouldn't appreciate it anywayyyyyyy.
Oh yeah, but all the tumblr people like iamahugslet etc etc have done a pretty good job of giffing all there is to see on YT. There's some nice giffable movements at the beginning and all.
When this was filmed touch screens were practically SCI FI.The FIRST iPhone hadn't even come out yet. Wiiiiild. MCR have seen so much media/tech come and go. Adaptable motherfuckers. <3
