Oldest email in the world

Well, not quite the oldest in the world -- I know people who have email addresses that date back to around 1983 -- but at 16 years, "cberry@cine.net" is pretty darned old.  Thus it is with a certain regret that I announce the impending retirement of that address (and the equivalent "cberry@cinenet.net").  This won't happen tomorrow, or maybe even ( Read more... )

And so the Master shapes without cutting, squares without sawing, RPCs without WSDLing.

Ooook, me like XML-RPC; me like spec which is exceedingly short, can be implemented in 3 Java classes, and was last changed in a major way in 1999...

I know, I know; I'm weird: I like using technologies that may be a little older, but are simple and reliable and easy to use and debug, so I can hack the code together quickly and go home early.

I admire your courageousness to change email addresses; I'm still clutching onto mine from far to long ago. I watch others change them like their underwear and can't figure it out.

"Please note that it starts with "cd"; "cberry" is an entirely different GMail user, who will be very confused if he or she starts getting deluged with requests for information about OTO web issues and EGC policies."

You really think that mistake won't happen constantly?

Oh, I'm sure it will happen; I merely hope that it might happen less than if I didn't mention the possibility.

In any case, in casual conversation I typically give people other emails, like webmaster@oto-usa.org, which are easier to find or remember.

Hey, I gave my alumni association a huge amount of money to become a lifetime member, just so I didn't have to change my primary e-mail account, ever. (That address has been in continuous use since 1988, and since I'm a lifer, will never change--and my older addresses at college from '84 used to forward to that address. Dunno if the forwarding e-mail still forwards; I haven't tried for a while, and I'd hate to send e-mail to it just to see if the e-mails are forwarding or was reassigned to someone else...)

My dad was fond of referring to himself as the elderberry.

At the other end of the spectrum, my two year old son refers to all berries as "babies", strawbabies, raspbabies, and of course the dreaded bluebabies :-)
