Vibram FiveFingers are great for wearing to the gym -- that's what heisenbug does, and he's just now getting into wearing them running. If I remember correctly, miyyu's husband wears them for running as well. I just wear mine to work and around town, because I'm a sissypants. :)

It's funny you should post about running. I just went running yesterday, which I apparently need to do every year or so in order to remember that I don't actually like it, despite that romantic appeal (among other things, it shoots my flexibility all to hell). I made each stride as soft as I could, and there's no joint pain today, just quad unhappiness. Btw, I recommend the book Making the Marathon Your Event... it's very cheerful and uplifting reading even if you don't intend to actually act on it.

Thanks for the link! There's a shop in town, it seems, that carries them. I'll go check them out.

Do you get odd looks from people when you're wearing them?

Yeah, I started running already loathing it. But mostly that was because I wasn't in any way athletic and I was too heavy. Since I've lost weight, it's much easier on my joints. I'm sort of determined to like it, you know?

I'll also look up that book you recommend. I really should run a marathon. Just once in my life, to say I did it. I'm sure there's lots to learn going through the whole process.

Yes, I smile back at them. :) Then they sometimes ask me questions. I wonder if I'll get as many questions this year though -- it seems they've been catching on.

I love my roommate's kitchenaid. I don't use it for silly things like stirring cake mix, but when it comes to things like my grandmother's chocolate pie recipe (beat butter, sugar, and melted chocolate on high speed for 20 minutes, adding an egg every 5) or an Italian meringue (or proper Parisian macaron cookies), there's nothing like it. It has a good motor which won't stop when you do dense doughs like sugar cookies, and they clean up pretty easy. I'm gonna miss that thing when I move back home.

There is a Kitcheaid outlet store in Madison CT that sell the re-manufactured Kitchenaids at a good discount. Just in case you ever move out...

Yes, I remember you telling me about them! But the one at Costco online is $260 and there's a free grinding attachment that comes with it... Are the refurbished ones less than that? I'm always up for a field trip!!

It has been long enough I do not remember other than that they were good prices. The warranty might have been shorter, not that they break all that often.

A field trip could be fun, but other than tomorrow, I am busy for most of the rest of this month.

Crown in Quebec next weekend
A wedding in philly the next

Yes, running! I need to start doing this, I have a Challenge to meet. I suspect that once I've forced myself to start, momentum will kick in.
