Considerations

I write a lot of sub-standard fic which I never post. My cheering squad and unofficial beta Nutellahostage takes it all with good grace and reads and responds with encouragement, for which I love you, hon...BUT I have a lot of unfinished, unacceptable fics ( Read more... )

Why hello there Sweeeetie! (love your proliferation of parenthesis, by the way!)

Thanks SO much for these, I shall peruse them at my leisure. I remember Minotaur's Tips from WAY back and had completely forgotten that site, while I have to admit I cringe at the thought that my fic is 'Romance', but I rather suppose it is. Just hopefully not of the Mills and Boon variety. Of course, the beauty of slash, be it RPS or not, is that the author doesn't have to work to build up a character or a relationship, merely uses one already in place that his/her reader is familiar with, and therefore a lot of the inferences/context is already in place. This makes it easier to write emotional stuff without labouring a point, but also sadly makes it easier to write PWP without any characterisation, imo.

Sorry, bit of a ramble there, I just started thinking with my fingers.

Many thanks for both links, anyway, I shall definitely be checking them out! :)

I know I've made this argument many times, so I'll try to say this nicely. I know I write a lot of stuff that I think is utter pants and should never see the light of day - and I'm sure there have been times when you have written something and, yes, it sucked. However, I have never seen anything from you that could be considered anything less than good!

I don't mean to dissaude you from this Brave New World era of ficcing, but may I suggest that you don't scrap the bad, merely put them to one side and return later to improve them? You've said before that you write ideas that you want to see, so it stands to reason that most of what you write is a plot that you want to see.

I'm aware I have a bit of bias regarding your fiction and rarely give concrit - it is difficult for me to find fault, but then again, you are the more experienced writer of the two of us. Comms such as wl_fanfiction I know would have no qualms about offering constructive criticism.

I hope my semi-incoherent ramblings helped.

I wasn't criticising your feedback dear, believe me, I appreciate it more than you know! And if I DIDN'T want it, you wouldn't be the person I ask each and every time! :D The concrit you DO give, (and you do give some, even if its only issues like chronology of the Players etc, but you give characterisation stuff too, which is always great to get!) is much much appreciated! And thank you, your encouragement keeps me writing, so don't stop ( ... )

I'm glad you appreciate it - any time you want concrit, I could probably get my Pedantic Degree Student hat on and go through your stuff with a printout and a pencil. I do worry, with stuff like characterisation, that I'm more enforcing my opinion on you rather than a solid fact - while telling you the date of something happening is non-negotiable, my ideas on how Josie, say, speaks is an entirely different matter.

I'm all for encouraging greatness, m'dear! Just say the word and I'll pester you as I write yet more drabbles.

Even if they're fairly quiet communities, I know a lot of people watch them and read whatever gets posted there, so I'm sure you'd get some kind of response. Don't be afraid of bad comments, darling, they only mean it through love! If you want, I can hurl abuse at you until I've whittled down your pride sufficiently. But I won't enjoy it.

I look forward to aforementioned developments! In return, I'll attempt to finish one of my own work-in-progresses.

*laughs* I'll bear that in mind, re your PDS Hat, thank you! As for characterisation, you're never enforcing your opinion on me, but any different take on the characters I present is welcome, as it may make me rethink things, but I'd never totally alter my conception of a character. Things like speech patterns though, ARE quantifiable, and your experience hence knowledge of those of the Players especially is far greater than mine, so if it sounds wrong to you, chances are, it is!

This abuse hurling interests me, though perhaps not for the reasons you think... *waggles eyebrows* And you're right AGAIN about the communities I'm sure. If it's worth commenting on, hopefully someone will, and if not - then maybe i need to consider why not (although one must never pander to one's public, of course, daaaahling!)

*cheers* for drabbles and WIP work from you!
Thanks again, my dear, all this self-indulgent talk of my fic really helps me crystalise what I want to do with it! *hugs*
