OK, totally confused over here

Does anyone know any tricks or tips or good websites I can use while making my book blog? I signed up for a blogspot account, created the blog, but now I have no idea how to create layouts or headers or sidebars or ... anything really.

Anyone have any Blogspot experience? Anyone?

Maybe I should've stuck with an LJ account...

I'm totally leaning towards LJ right now. I know LJ, and honestly? What's the difference between Blogspot and LJ?
