fannishly

It's been lovely here in Colorado, sunny and warm. Meanwhile I'm seeing photos of snow and reading post after post of how cold and miserable all my friends are. Um, sorry!

I've made my first pass through Festivids! Here's a short list of recs for vids that really stood out for me. I think most of them are enjoyable and understandable even ( Read more... )

Wow I didn't even know there was an afterlife kink. And this is sort of my fandom and L/G is majorly an OTP so thank you for this rec! Tags disappear on kindle so let them be annoying... (Is this on tumblr?). Also vids! Haven't seen any in a long time! Thankee well.

The fic is on AO3 so easy to download to your Kindle! (I'm reading it on my Kobo.) It's funny, I can sort of see where people get Thorin/Bilbo from (in the first movie) but the bits of the story that are Thorin/Bilbo kind of seem extraneous to me - but oh, I'm grabbing all the Legolas/Gimli hints with both hands! I hope you enjoy it!

(I am not even sure where this afterlife kink stuff comes from! I've written it, too, in multiple fandoms. But it's not like I'm an actual believer in ghosts or life after death. I just - I like the idea. Also, so many of my fandoms have canonical character death, so it's a way of getting around that, I guess!)

All winter I've felt like the only warm snow and ice-free person in the country. I'm sill generally chilly, but I feel silly when our low is 50 and others are snowed in.

Hope everyone else warms up soon!

I know, it feels churlish to complain about a cloudy day that keeps our high in the lower 40s instead of the promised 50F when my friends are enduring the nth day of single digit highs!

BTW I'm so glad you're back and able to be online again! And we finished Battlestar Galactica last week! Here's what I said about it: We liked it in general, but were ready to be done. There were some weird bits and some unanswered questions, but overall I thought it came to an appropriate ending. And I loved the fate/destiny/gods/'this has all happened before' thread of things. It's odd - I am an atheist and skeptic, and roll my eyes at attempts to explain real world events through mystical shit, but put that mystical shit into a work of fiction and I am all over it.

Yeah, exactly. I'm cold, but we have no snow or ice or anything, so it seems silly to complain.

And thanks! It sounds like you liked the ending more than I did. I really disliked the part about Starbuck being whatever it was she was -- not just human, vanishing into thin air. But then I disliked her through the whole series, so that sort of makes sense.

Even though it had to happen, the scene where Laura Roslin died just killed me.

I figured she was actually dead and just sort of a ghost created by the gods to play out her role to get the people to their new Earth? But yeah, I didn't like her much.

And yeah, Laura ♥
