once a year, whether I need to or not.

I have always wondered about these things. Me, I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing. I was raised by wolves.
Poll cleanliness is next to...impossible.Hmm, maybe I need a "domestic goddess" icon. Although that might be false advertising.

meanderings, poll

Well, I don't wash my *sweaters* every time I wear them, but they're usually a layer and not the only thing I'm wearing.

And I have cheap-ish serrated knives, for the most part. I don't think you CAN get those sharpened. I wouldn't know how to sharpen my ulu, which is my best knife, and seems to be indestructible.

Besides, cheap serrated blades are usually stainless steel. That stuff can't hold an edge for shit, alas.

Yeah, sweaters worn not next to the skin are like coats. And ooh, ulu! (I just like saying that. :-)

Heh, but do you ever wash your sheets?

And maybe I just need to get crappy cheap steak knives.

Oh, crap, you have reminded me I intended to ask about vacuuming habits also.

I, too, have cheap knives that are still lovely and sharp, but if they cease to be I'll just replace them. The bread knives from the 99 cent store are surprisingly good.

I really like the heft of a decent (although not extremely high-end) knife. I have a cheapy bread knife that does just fine, but I like the way the nicer one feels.

Heh. My knives are a grab-bag mix of second-hand things given to me by my aunts when I went off to college. Well, except for the little steak- and paring knives I bought for myself (four steak, one paring, I think) from the bargain bin at the grocery store for, uh, $2 for 10.

The nonserrated knives do get sharpened whenever I notice they're dull (father has a fancy automatic knife sharpener and loves to use it, so I just cart them home with me). I don't have a dishwasher, but I imagine that if I did they'd go in it about fifty percent of the time; my mother never put hers in there, but I am a lazy enough kitchenkeeper that I just know I'd do it when in a hurry.

Jeans are a completely separate category from all other clothes and can be worn many times between washings. Because I decide to believe they can.

This. Also skirts, because let's face it: unless you spill something on them, they don't tend to come into contact with, erm, odor-causing fluids.

I am not sure I have ever managed to wear a skirt and not spill something on it. La la la.

Shirts are mostly worn once, jeans for a week, shorts a few times, skirts, well I last wore one last century.

Small, plastic handled knives go in the dishwasher sometimes, but we don't use the dishwasher very often at all. Big knives don't.

Yeah, jeans stay acceptable longer. But I still wear shirts more times than you, and jeans less times.

Yeah, I think it's mostly because I really only have two functional pairs of jeans right now - if I wash them both on the same weekend I'm stuck wearing shorts if it rains and they don't dry!
