I would rather read fanfiction than vacuum my house

Okay, not all fanfiction is slash, and not all slash is porn, but still, I start getting twitchy when the subject of internet censorship comes up. Before I get to the recs, a couple of interesting and relevant links:

Free broadband proposal comes with censorship strings attached - story about an FCC plan by Helen A.S. Popkin at MSNBC.

Legolas/Gimli! They are my ur-slash pairing, the pairing I slashed before I'd ever heard of slash, so many of us seem to have done that sort of thing before we found fandom. *g*

Oh, hey, and totally off-topic, but you're probably the best person for me to ask! If you were *cough* interested in seeing more of CKR's work, but not so interested in angst, depressing endings and/or CKR being a serial killer, what would be good to try? Mostly my six degrees stuff for dS has been Paul Gross, even though I'm not especially interested in him, because I like the sort of quirky cheerful things he does. I *have* seen (and adored) Wilby Wonderful, but that's really it for CKR. Hints? Tips? Suggestions?

I think Legolas/Gimli is very nearly canon, and it makes me happy in a fundamental way. (And I sort of have a story brewing but I am not sure if I will ever write it. La la la.)

For CKR, I would immediately recommend Double Happiness, in which he is the adorkable love interest of Sandra Oh. The Bliss episode he's in - it's a sort of soft porn for women series - is not the most fascinating story, but it does have him naked in a bathtub, and I'm pretty sure it's somewhere in my closet. If you like quirky cheerful, you might enjoy the show Twitch City, although I have never seen an entire episode. I also recommend Whole New Thing although he's only in a few scenes and not the most sympathetic character (but also, naked - or at least, implied naked).

Everything else I can think of offhand is angst-fest-orama.

Yes. I mean, Legolas *took Gimli over the sea*! I mean, really. (And if your story is ever written, I for one will be very happy to read it *g*)

Oh, awesome! Thank you. I shall definitely look for those, then.

oh my. That "Touching" was exactly the way I like it. Thank you very much for pointing that out.

On the other hand, I completely failed to make pizza tonight because I couldn't stop reading and now I have to go out and buy it. : /

Oh, I had no idea you were even remotely interested in that fandom! Yay, I win! I have a companion to the special hell!

Her other stories are mostly worth reading as well, although so far I haven't yet found the same combination of extended, drawn out UST with a bang-up hot climax.

I went through a phase where I read much LOTRips. I cringe a little bit, as I do with most RPS, but it can just be too enticing.

What I *really* want is that same UST but written for Aragorn/Boromir alt U where Boromir doesn't die and it's all long, drawn out, oh-so-wrong and soap-operish. I would give much for that. It's such a natural - why doesn't it exist?

Just out of interest, do either of you have any quick pointers for Lord of the Rings fics? Not RPS, character stuff.

I liked these stories by Cimorene very much, but I've never read anything in this fandom so I don't really know where else to look.

Isn't Cimorene's prose swoonsome? It's through her that I got into lotrips. :-)

I have actually shared two fandoms with her - "Thing" was one of the first Remus/Sirius stories I ever liked (it's a pairing I don't care for in general), and I loved her SGA story "Instantaneous". I did read a few of her Lotrips stories but I am not a fan of the style she uses in them. But I may, when I have a chance, read her other LotR FPS stories even though they are not my pairing.

I do think she's slightly better in lotr fps than she is in lotr rps but it's her rps that grabbed me, way back when. But perhaps it was unintentional... The first rps I read by her was the first rps I'd read, ever, and I laughed so much that the page blurred with my tears. However, looking back on it, I think that story was meant to be swoony and angsty... I was first in tears, and secondly turned on. Ah, what can you do? It grabs yer. *shrugs*

I may know those other stories of hers you mention but I've forgotten the titles so let me check them out again! I was just cruising around for a nice read so this post is all to my liking. :-)

You read "Touching," woot! :D That was an incredibly fun story. You probably didn't notice, but I went a bit nuts in the comments for a while -- I think I had two in a row that were four screens long. [laugh/duck] There were just so many great lines and bits, hee!

That was exactly what I wanted to read in this fandom! Thanks so much for pointering me!

I, um, might have also read every other story of hers as well with Sean or Viggo, as well as the Aragorn/Legolas. See, I can read Orlando :-)
