my brand-new podfic policy

Apr 09, 2008 13:28

Two things, both vaguely related to amplificathon:

1. Nobody's ever recorded any of my fic as podfic; I don't know if that's because I've recorded a bunch of them and therefore people assume I only want them to be read by me, or if it's because nobody's interested in reading my stupid stories. Anyway, on the off chance that somebody is interested in reading ( Read more... )

flist knows all, audiofic

It's annoying enough when people don't capitalize properly in normal posts, but it drives me utterly crazy when they do that in fic. I really don't get what they're trying to do.

I am tremendously grateful that in all the fandoms I read, even the people who eschew normal capitalization in their posts use it for fic.

In bandslash, sometimes people do it the other way around. Thankfully, I've never seen that in a fic that was actually good, so I just take it as a warning sign same as typos in the header.

I'm thinking of making it a policy to defriend/not friend non-capital users.

That is my current policy. The problem lies with 1) reading such people's comments in my and other journals (some of them recognize that I have an Issue here, and are polite enough to use normal capitalization when commenting here, but not all do; and of course I have no control over what happens in others' journals), and especially with 2) communities frequented or run (cf amplificathon) by such people. I can't participate in a community if I can't even stand to read the rules!

I also am worried that my instinctive and extreme reaction will be viewed negatively by people who are friends with these posters. (Who are, I am sure, perfectly nice people, and many of them do a lot for fandom - but I simply can't read their posts or comments.)

I have someone on my flist I want to unfriend - she never uses capitals and she posts constant emo whining.

Except you know that rule that you can't unfriend someone within 3 months of their last suicide post? She posts one every two months, so I just seem stuck!

I think that the no-capitals rule cancels out the suicide post rule. I say go for it.

Um. I capslock a lot? Sorry.

Oh, honey, I didn't mean you. I don't mind an occasional capslock word or phrase. But all caps makes my eyes bleed - and all lower-case, which is more common, makes me all squinty and pissy and annoyed.

Yes! It's one of the reasons that I prefer my bandom (yeah, sorry. I'm reading some of the stories, but I just can't get into the canon. Because Pete Wentz cannot spell OR capitalize, and it drives me nuts) filtered through canon.

(Do not worry. I will not disappear into the mists of bandom. I read in lots of fandoms that I'm not in.)

Also, my housemates say reading one of my posts is exactly the way that I talk, except with less danger of getting hit with a flying arm as I gesture. \o?

Ha ha ha. Yes, "I am an individual! Look at my hipster shirt!" does not count as "artistic purposes".

Anybody out there interested in writing me a Greasemonkey script that automagically converts LJ (and clone) text written without standard capitalization to proper English text?
Ooh, that would be so awesome!

Now, how do we get a coding slave to do our bidding?
