new dS story: Being Ray Kowalski

Nov 27, 2007 12:09

I am overjoyed to finally unveil the story that has been variously referred to here as "the genderfuckswappy thing" and "the Rae story"! It's been over a year in the writing, and it's my longest story by over a factor of two (OMG!), and I really, really hope you all enjoy it.

Being Ray Kowalskidue South: Fraser/Kowalski, 50,300 words, NC17, ( Read more... )

OMG, this sounds so perfect! Downloading right now to read as soon as I have some time. :)

And oh wow, I don't even have a DS Icon. Life is cruel!

Yay that we share another fandom! And there are lots of DS icons (and screencaps, if you want to be original) floating around, so you have NO EXCUSE! Woo!

Oh yes, I've been in and out of DS for quite a while and the great fic keeps dragging me back. :)

And now I at least have one icon to go with that! *g*

Oh, cool. I love getting new epic-length stories to read, and I will definitely be abusing the printing priviliges at work soon...

I really, honestly loved this, the way Rae is almost-but-not-quite Ray, almost-but-not-quite an original character, and the way Fraser reacts to all of it. The way you made it work really amazed me. Fantastic stuff, I really enjoyed reading it. Just sat down and didn't get up until I'd finished.

Thank you so much! I really am happy that it worked for you, and that Rae came across both as an original character (which she is) and as female-Ray (which she is, too).

Okay, so, I think I'm ever so slightly in love (or, at least, serious adoration) with Rae and the way that she's so-very-nearly Ray and is yet entirely her own person as well. The parallels between the two Chicagos-- and the way you built up the reality of Rae's Chicago from her perspective-- were really well thought out and engaging.

I also think your Fraser broke me a little, here and there.

Yay, I am glad you liked it! I think that writing Rae, and most especially her grounding in her own (slightly different) past in her own (slightly different) Chicago, edged just a little more toward original fic worldbuilding and character creation than I've ever done: friends who have written original novels just shrug and say, "I just know all this stuff about them!" and that's kind of how it was here. I didn't think, "hmm, how should Rae have met Fraser?" I thought, "this is how Rae met Fraser, of course!" It was as though I was peeking into the world instead of inventing it.

(Hi, I can talk about my stories forever!)

Thank you so much for your kind comment!
