Hmm, you've made Heroes sound very interesting now. I've seen all the squee but I haven't started downloading it precisely because I thought it would be a show about a bunch of superheroes Fighting Crime. And I'm watching a lot of episodic shows like that right now (SGA, Torchwood and others) so I didn't want to add another to the mix. But I'm definitely curious right now. Drat.
It's...as I have described to people, it took me a while to get into it because of its fragmented nature. The connections don't start coming into focus until the third or fourth episode, and you really do need to start from the beginning. And some of the intertwined stories are (to me) less interesting than others.
It does sound like something I'd enjoy. It's just that my 'to watch'-queue is pretty long already and I barely have time to watch what I do now. :-) But I guess I'll download an episode or two, just to see what it's like. Thanks for pointing me to the tag, I've somehow completely missed it!
I agree that the cast is too big. And if, as rubyrosered suggests above, TPTB try to maintain the novelty by adding new characters now and then, I don't see that being sustainable in terms of keeping the viewers' interest.
On the other hand, part of the interest to me is the fragmented aspect, so I don't want to see it become episodic. I want more shared storylines - I agree, the tangential contact such as DL and Hiro, or Hiro and Nathan just doesn't seem to have a point. But I also don't want it to lose its complexity.
Yeah, I certainly get that there are story arcs which take up many eps (or the whole season). I just wonder how they will sustain the feel of it once all the characters have met each other.
From what the people producing and writing this have said and the way that the show is being presented with chapter headings, I think of it as a novel shown over 22 weeks. Supposedly all the Heroes who survive will eventually meet. Sylar is supposedly the key villain for this year
