Summary: Kate hears Claire's breath catch as her son walks closer. Tears fall down her face as she looks at him, and Kate realizes for the first time that whatever love she has for Aaron pales in comparison to the love that Claire has for him.

Oh, my heart. This is gorgeous, the emotion in it feels so real. The part where Aaron took Claire's hand put this huge lump in my throat. Kate and Claire were both making me ache here because they love that little boy so much and after everything they've been through I just want them both to be happy. And then the end happened:

Claire reaches up, though, and takes her hand, holds it loosely in hers. "Stay," she asks.

Kate looks at her. After what she has done to Claire, Kate is surprised. But she had made a promise; she had told Claire she would help her. She looks to Aaron, who is still holding onto Claire's hand, but is now looking up on her.

"Okay," she agrees, wrapping her fingers around Claire's hand and squeezing back. "Okay."

*sniffles*

I felt like a hug would be a little too much considering Aaron was still so young and probably didn't exactly understand what was going on. And he wouldn't know Claire, so I figured him grabbing he fingers would be a little more...realistic. And in a way, more meaningful.

This is so beautiful. I can't imagine the reunion going any other way after reading this, your characterization is so wonderful. The whole thing breaks my heart in the best way--this section:

Kate is struggling to balance all of her feelings - accomplishment, regret, pain, sadness, completion - but she doesn't think she's doing so well. She realizes now that a part of her never really let Aaron go. Now that he is back where he belongs, back with his real mother, she can truly mourn the loss of him, and of the unconditional love that he gave her. She has lost so much, so many. She has lost friends, she has lost Jack.

It's all hitting her now, and she's amazed she's still standing.

really made me cry. Poor Kate! Ahhh. Again, this is perfect.

Kate's head is an interesting place to be, post finale. I honestly can't believe there she really let Aaron go completely, and having brought him and his real mother back together, even though it is what she set out to do, can't be easy for her. It's something of her own making, but no doubt painful. I truly believe, though, that Claire has it in her to forgive Kate, so in my head, she eventually did.
