Title: Eden
Rating: PG
Summary: What Jack doesn’t know is that the whole island is a cage, and always will be as long as Ben was alive to make sure of it. He was born on the island, loved it like a child, or more accurately, she supposed, like a parent. There was very little about it that he didn’t know, and that meant no one on it was ever safe ( Read more... )

Nice. I like how you make it feel different -- like you say so perceptively here, it's the same island, except it's not. Juliet trying so hard, offering up the same old grilled cheese, but it's not enough. and Jack ending up with Kate, in a way, her file at least, finding out things about her that he probably never really wanted to know. Very well done.

Thanks. :) I think that it would feel different to suddenly be near houses and swingsets and a real neighborhood instead of huts on a beach, that even if it is the same island, it would feel completely different.

and Jack ending up with Kate, in a way, her file at least, finding out things about her that he probably never really wanted to know.

I've always wondered how Jack would react to Kate if he knew what she had done to Wayne, how he would treat her after knowing that about her.

Thank you for reading. I'm glad you liked it. :)

Oh yes, this is such a fascinating idea. Jack (and Sawyer) finally finding out the truth about Kate's crime is what inspired my last non-drabble fic, actually, even if it ultimately didn't end up being that much about Kate. I am so curious to see if that happens in the show. It would definitely help explain why Jack is shutting her out right now although I can't say that's enough of a reason ( ... )

I think it probably will at some point, but I'm not sure that's why Jack's acting toward her the way that he is. I think he's trying to keep her at a distance, so he doesn't get hurt by her again, and because Jack has always been so compassionate to Kate, it seems callous. But I don't think it is. I think it's self-preservation.

I really like that you've shown that Jack still has a loyalty to the other survivors, but that when he means "home" he is still thinking of the real world, partly because it's the only way he can save them all. I do like to think that Jack was thinking of saving them all and not just himself, as Juliet always has.The only way I can make sense of the sub thing was Jack trying to protect everyone, knowing that as long as Ben was around, they'd all be in danger and the only way to really protect them, was to get them off the island. And when ( ... )

I've thought of trying to get into Jack's head to figure out what he must be thinking but at this point I'm going to have to wait for the next episode. I do think we need more than they've given us to go on so far. There was such a shift in between "Man From Tallahassee" and "Left Behind" and I hope they explain why.

Anyway, we've both ficced it now, but I wouldn't be surprised if Jack has read Kate's file, especially if they showed it to Locke.

They have to. I think they didn't show us the time Jack spent with the Others for just that reason, because they were going to explain it later. I have a theory that Wednesday's episode isn't going to be so much a "Juliet" flashback as an "Others" flashback, letting us in on what the Others have been doing since the plane crash, what their motivation is. I think that Sayid is going to want Juliet to lay everything out for him, to tell him everything that she knows. I get the feeling it's going to be one of those situations where there's going to be an information for protection/food trade.

Anyway, we've both ficced it now, but I wouldn't be surprised if Jack has read Kate's file, especially if they showed it to Locke.

I suppose you do have a point. If Locke has seen it, maybe Jack has seen it too. Hmm. Well, it would be interesting, that's for sure.
