I'm so glad you're enjoying her! I love the idea of River Song but I hate how she ended up being written. She's so BAMF in Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead and I wanted to capture that awesomeness.
I will never ship her with the Doctor because what I've seen of their relationship is seriously unhealthy (hence my take on it in 'The Woman'). I do, however, ship her with Jenny and with Jack (though not at the same time XP).

THERE'S SO MUCH OF THIS I LOVE.
JACKIE THREATENING THE DOCTOR.
THE DOCTOR BEING A COWARD. EVERY TIME DAMMIT.
AND RIVER. OH RIVER. I LOVE THIS RIVER. I LOVE HOW YOU WRITE RIVER. HAVE I EVER TOLD YOU THAT? I HAVE? WELL, I'LL TELL YOU AGAIN. I LOVE HOW YOU WRITE RIVER.
AND THEN PETE COMES IN AND THE DOCTOR GOES ALL ONCOMING STORM. *drools*
AND AMY NOW HAS AN ALLY.
AND ROSE/TARDIS BONDING.
AND THE SMUT, IS! THE SMUT. IT WAS GORGEOUS. FROM IT BEING ALL INTIMATE AND THEN ROSE BEING ALL DOMINATE AND THEN THE BONDING. *le sigh*

I had to write River the way I think she should be in canon. Her relationship, when taken to its logical conclusion, is so different from how it's portrayed on TV.
The smut tripped me up a bit, but Rose has been 'Irene' for almost ten years--she's going to be a bit dominant, I think. XP And thank god because if you left the Doctor to it he'd run away, because as you said--he's a coward, every time.
