More Obama Thoughts

I've maintained, as an Obama supporter, that I disagreed with his policy ideas on ideological grounds, but that I liked the man himself. If I'm going to have to listen to someone I disagree with for four years, I would prefer to listen to someone who is eloquent and has a pleasant voice. My problem is that neither the policy statements for his campaign nor his voting record as a state or federal Senator reflect this sort of thought. I'm convinced that the voting record of a Congresscritter is the best barometer for his future policy objectives.

It's got to be more complicated than that. At least some of the Congresscritters who gave us the Medicare prescription drug program were elected under the "Contract with America." And somehow ended up adding the missing piece of the Great Society.

I'm not saying this bodes well for an Obama administration because it suggests that once people spend too much time in Washington they'll drift to the left all the while preaching to the right, but it at least makes the case that politicians are unpredictable.

I'm more worried about putting the same party in charge of both political branches than I am about which party it is. Sadly, it seems inevitable that the Democrats will at least maintain their majorities and probably strengthen them. Maybe we can throw them out in two years...it worked in '06.

As for Supreme Court Justices, Obama's choices will likely be liberal, but at least they won't be Harriet Myers...what was with that anyway?
