What's the scenery of the bottom of the heart that Kamenashi Kazuya's lens reflects?
Vol.14 男らしさ MANHOOD
「Femininity is expressed by appearance, but manhood can’t be anything but the inside. I think that it’s the sense of responsibility and the combative heart more than muscles.」
When the drama filming ends too, we can go drinking with calm. Without meaning to, last day just men stayed to drink till such an hour. Moreover we started at 6pm (laughs). Compared to the graceful “steadiness” of women, men are the naughty “movement”.
Just a thing about the time I played the part of a youkai ningen [*] in the drama till last month. Also for the sake of creating the character I decided to make [my] “humanity” thinner, so I carefully used make up or shaved body hair. Then I became something strange, my look was rapidly becoming a feminine look. A feminine outward appearance can’t be born with a mere natural body. Since it is also born from a “creating process”, in a certain meaning it isn’t human, or better, I think it is something that becomes closer to a youkai (laughs). Polishing oneself with beauty and make-up, dressing stuff that you can’t wear without a sense of nervousness like miniskirt or high heels. But that difficulty gives birth to a graceful femininity. Such a femininity is easy to express just with the “look”, on the other side what we call “manhood”, I think that it’s nothing but the “inside”. More than the body sculpture, it’s the strength of the spirit. The combative essence, a courage that carries responsibility, the determination to protect people dear to you… if there aren’t these qualities, it doesn’t matter how much you smooth your appearance over, as a man you’re nothing, right?
Kamenashi Kazuya has the heart of a man, the body is a man’s body too, and also my love direction is the one of a normal man (laughs). But normally I am not conscious of something like “I want to behave manly”, and my antenna promptly reacts to things concerning women interests too. I am often said “during concerts you do feminine dance and movements”, but that’s because normally I admire the beauty of women’s gestures or movements. I absorb them unconsciously and they come out as expressions, I guess. Also the fact that I like typical feminine stuff like cosmetics or aroma, it’s because it looks simply very interesting and it feels good. For this reason I’m interested in what the actresses who work with me carry around, and in the dressing room we usually have girl’s talks (laughs). Probably talking like this there are people thinking “you aren’t manly. Although you’re a man”, but I don’t mind. I simply want to enjoy what I like, both cars and beauty, as I please. I always want to be neutral towards stuff I find wonderful or interesting, without paying attention to how people see me.
People that outside are frank like a man but at home enjoy their femininity are great
In the end, I think that fascinating people have no relation with being a man or a woman, and speaking about people that fascinate me, they have somehow a sort of “neutral/in between” charm. When I’m asked “Who is a man you like?”, it’s always Johnny Depp, without fail. More than a macho body form, a body with a slender muscularity and also with a slight carelessness is better. Both the sensitivity and the gestures possess a somewhat feminine allure. Someone who doesn’t insist on his masculinity on the outside but that you can rely on at the crucial moment; whose work manners follows his principles and who’s a frank man… in my opinion, such a man is a good man. The same goes for women. I like people who have a sort of neutral/in between nature. More that someone that pulls off the woman nature just outside, I like people who make me feel, in a good meaning, their manhood. I am charmed by women that have a serenity that doesn’t mind little things, who have the steadiness of someone who carries a burden or an independence that doesn’t require to be spoilt like a child. Actually, isn’t this kind of people secretly keeping inside themselves a cute woman? They composedly keep an interesting conversation, but actually on the love side they’re pure and naïve (laughs). Even though their fashion is rough, lingerie and negligée are incredibly elaborate. Even though when they go to eat outside they are like “wherever we go is OK!”, at home they’re very skilled cookers and plainly do housework. On the contrary, I wonder if aren’t those who vigorously try to appeal keeping showing a sort of femininity the ones who live in a slipshod way… but this is just my conjecture (laughs).
In short, both men and women, wonderful people are “still waters run deep”. [**] Aren’t exactly those people who enjoy their masculinity or femininity just for themselves and not for someone else’s sake the genuine ones?

Kame’s fixed point of observation
Exactly as it’s written in the text, Kamenashi-kun is expert about girl’s matters to the point to exchange opinions about beauty with the female staff in charge of the serial corner. Saying “My dressing room is like an actress’ one! (laughs)” in the picture he shows us there are aroma candles, Nano steamer [***], skin care goods with beautiful bottles. “Skin care too, products for women improves your feelings even just looking at them”, his heart is completely a girl one! “Since I’m capricious, things to rise up my mood are essential. Moreover since I am fickle, I always look for fresh new information. Ladies, please take care of me! (laughs)”

Notes
[*] Youkai ningen = humanoid monster. He's referring to the drama "Youkai Ningen Bem" he's starred in.
[**] This saying literally translates as “intelligent hawk conceals its talon”.
[***] I don’t have idea of how this thing ナノスチーマー is translated in English since I couldn’t find something similar in a language different to Japanese (and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s something used just in Japan XDD) but it’s basically this Panasonic stuff, used for skin care
(this). It was also in the Panasonic Christmas Campaign last year.
Side note about “neutral/in between” charm". This is a word I'd normally translate as neutral, indeed, but since he's talking about gender, I think the meaning is indeed "a charm that's not masculine nor feminine, or both of them". Just my guess though. :)

I understand where Kame comes from, but I don’t really like what he said here about "masculine" and "feminine" difference. Anyway... as Johnny Depp huge fan, I'm also happy when Kame talks about him~ xD
