I used to give Shyamalan the benefit of the doubt, holding out some vain hope that he had no choice but to do TLA and that's why it's so, so shitty. How else can you even explain that writing?

But the more he talks, man...

He is beholden to the studio to promote the movie, so no matter how terrible the movie is, I can't see him breaking down and copping to making bad decisions about it while its opening in theatres, especially if he has any hope of continuing his career (and it will continue: as Kevin Smith said, in Hollywood you "fail upwards.") He has no concept of tact or spin, so he flounders when wading through the criticsm.

Yeah, he's a horrible writer. I still can't believe I paid money to see "Lady in the Water" in theaters. That should've been a tip-off that he's not cut out for helming something based heavily on East-Asian culture: in that film (in which he plays himself as the savior of humanity) he made up a "Chinese" creature called the Narf.

As in the thing that Pinky from Pinky and the Brain always says.
