“Can I take the blindfold off yet?”
Oliver chuckled, “Not yet. I haven’t even stopped the car.”
“So when the engine’s switched off I can remove it.”
“Sidekick, can’t you just wait.”
Chloe shook her head, “No. I’m very impatient. I want to know what we’re doing.”
Turning right down a narrow road Oliver paused for a second before answering, “We’re going to have some fun and live life. How we’re going to do that is the surprise.”
“But I hate surprises.”
Oliver sighed, “Only you would hate a surprise when someone is trying to do something nice for you.”
“Fine. I’ll stop complaining but the second the car stops I’m taking off the blindfold.”
“Deal,” Oliver replied. Turning down another street he came to a complete stop before manoeuvring the car to the left side of the road. Stopping in a ditch he switched off the engine, waiting for Chloe to comment.
“Where are we?” She asked once she took off the blindfold.
“A short walk from where we want to be.” Oliver replied before pushing open his door. Exiting the car he dropped his head back down to ask “Are you coming?” before he closed the door and opened the boot. Hearing her come out he slung the backpack over his shoulder before shutting the boot and locking his car.
“Shall we?” He asked, offering a torch and his arm at the same time.
Sighing she placed her hand on his arm and took the torch, “This better be worth it.”
“Just wait and see,” Oliver replied with a smile before pulling her along the road. After walking for fifteen minutes in a straight line he turned to smile at Chloe, “Just over that little hill and we’ll be there.”
“Why couldn’t we have just driven?”
“What’s wrong with walking?”
Chloe shook her head, “Not all of us are health freaks with regular exercise routines or jump off buildings.”
“I’d hardly equate walking down a road with jumping off a building.”
“Well I do.”
Oliver shrugged, “It’s a beautiful night. I figured walking wouldn’t kill you. Apparently I was wrong.”
“You were really wrong,” Chloe replied with a nod. Coming over the top of the crest she considered taking those words back, “That is one beautiful view.” The moon, full and golden, was sitting in the sky casting a mystical look over the whole lake.
“Which you wouldn’t have seen if we were still in the car,” Oliver replied.
“Only because you blindfolded me,” Chloe pointed out, “I can’t believe I didn’t figure out this is where you had brought me.”
“Yeah I figured you’d only been here in the day time.”
“I always wanted to come during the night time.”
Oliver nodded, “I figured we’d go swimming.”
“Going swimming, at midnight, in Crater Lake, I think this is something someone would cross off a bucket list.”
“Why doesn’t it surprise me that you don’t have a bucket list,” Oliver replied with a chuckle.
“Damn straight I’m not. I didn’t bring anything to swim in. Are you hoping we’ll go skinny dipping?”
Oliver laughed, “No. I just expect underwear but if you want to get naked go right ahead. I’ve never stopped a hot woman from disrobing.”
Smacking him on the arm Chloe scoffed, “Shut up. Let’s just get this over with.”
Dropping his bag at the side of the lake Oliver pulled his shirt over his head before heading in. Calling over his shoulder he said, “I’ll keep my back turned if that makes you feel more comfortable.”
“It does,” Chloe called back as she stripped off his shirt. Looking down at her shorts she figured that she would be able to swim in her bra and shorts. If she happened to get the front seat of Oliver’s car wet, well, that was just an added bonus.
Swimming out to the Oliver she tapped him swiftly on the back before ducking under the water and trying to swim away. Letting out an underwater squeal as he grabbed her foot she broke the surface of the water with a cough and splatter.
“That was mean Oliver Jonas Queen!”
Oliver just laughed, “You started it. You should know better than attacking a hero who relies on their reflexes.”
“So you’re saying I had this coming.”
“Yes. Yes I am.”
“Well as annoying as that is,” Chloe replied with a sigh, “I’m still grateful that you brought me here.”
“I’d do anything to make you happy sidekick.”
“Well maybe you’ll stop calling me sidekick?”
“It’s endearing.”
“Not to me it’s not.”
“Well then I guess I’ll have to call you Tower.”
“I’d prefer that to sidekick.”
Oliver shrugged, “Well I’ll see what I can do.”
“Thank you Oliver. For everything.”
“You’re welcome.”
