Fic: The Unexpected
Rating: PG
Pairing: Veronica/Logan
Summary: For some reason this wasn’t what Veronica had pictured for her life but she wouldn’t want to change it for anything
Word Count: 561
Prompt: Volunteers from my
au_bingo card
A/N: Firstly this is written for my
au_bingo card prompt volunteers. Secondly this is written very differently from anything I’ve written. There’s no dialogue... at all. It feels a little weird but that’s this is what came out.
Anyway, Enjoy, feel free to comment and to leave constructive criticism.
When Veronica had first started volunteering for the shelter for abused and assaulted women she hadn’t expected for the work to turn into a full time job. Of course when it had been suggested by her college professor that she should volunteer somewhere and when she had seen the wanted sign for the shelter she couldn’t help but feel moved by what they were doing. When they offered her the full time job she could barely contain her excitement, unable to figure out how she had drifted so far from her original career path. She had planned to be a cop, in any form that she could, but when she started working at the shelter her opinion had changed.
There was something great about working at the shelter, something that she couldn’t understand. There was this sense of accomplishment that came from helping others that she knew she wouldn’t be able to experience as a cop. That was ok though. She was happy at the shelter. Maybe one day she would return to her previous path of study and become a cop but for the moment she was happy.
Of course job fulfil wasn’t the only thing that came from the shelter. One day when she was working behind the desk Logan had walked in, his mother under one arm, pulling her along. Bruises had marred her face as she sobbed into her son’s shoulder. Walking over to the counter Veronica had signed them in and taken Lynn straight to the nurse’s office. Whilst she was getting checked over the whole story had come out of Logan as he filled out the paper work for him.
It was odd to think that was how their relationship had formed but after that day Logan had willingly come back to volunteer at events they held to raise awareness in the community and to visit his mother. The surprising moment had come when Lynn had left finally left the shelter, having found somewhere far from her ex-husband to stay, that Logan still showed up. He had said that he felt like he still owed the shelter for what they had done for his mother. That was until the day they were trapped in the car together.
It had come out of nowhere, the trip to Chicago, and Veronica hadn’t really wanted to go alone. When Logan had volunteered to come with her she couldn’t help but say yes immediately. She liked Logan’s company, he was fun to be around and sure, she could admit it, he was hot. She just hadn’t expected the flat or the declaration that had come while they were arguing over who should change the tire. A declaration of love followed by him sweeping her up in his arms and kissing her senseless.
It was almost as if the scene had been pulled from a motion picture. The way his arms wrapped around her, the way his lips pressed into her own, and, most importantly, the way the moment made her feel. It was incredible.
So no, when Veronica had started at the shelter she hadn’t expected anything other than fulfilling a requirement for her professor. She had found a job she loved, a career path she wanted more than anything and the love of her life. It made her realise that maybe she would actually get what she wanted.
The end.
