The past few months had been rough on Blaine. Between Karofsky and Glee then transferring it felt like his life was finally going from full speed to a full stop. There were gems at the end of the tunnel though. It looked like Finn was finally willing to put aside his distaste in him, admitting that he had been jealous of his vocal skills. His friendship with Rachel, Mercedes and Mike seemed to solidify as the events slowed down. They all made a conscious effort to keep in contact, even though he was now going to a school over two hours away.
Then there was Kurt. The wonderful, gay Dalton boy who had reminded him that he was worth more than what he had been getting. On his first day at Dalton he had run into Kurt in the hallway. The boy had shown him around, proven to him that the school would be accepting and admitted that he probably would have been at McKinley if his dad hadn’t been scared that what had happened to Blaine would have happened to him. From that day on Blaine couldn’t help but feel that he’d found someone who truly understood him. It was like all the love songs were finally making sense, though that made him feel cheesy.
There was a down side to Dalton though. He was in no way use to the work load that it placed upon his shoulders here. McKinley was in way as strict about their academics as Dalton was and it took a bit to get use to. So he had holed himself up in the common room, hoping to plough through enough of his homework that it would appear as if he had some grasp on it before it spiralled out of control for the break.
What he hadn’t expected was Kurt to walk in holding a boom box. Hearing him dump it on the end table he looked up and smiled.
“Hey”
“Hey,” Kurt replied, returning his grin, “What are you up to?”
“I’m trying to get through the pile of homework I have before it topples over and kills me.”
Kurt laughed, “Aren’t you glad that I’m here then?”
“Why?”
“Cause I’ve come to offer a distraction.”
“And what would this distraction entitle?”
“You helping me practise. The King’s Island Spectacular is trying something different this year and apparently I’m needed.”
“Well of course.”
Kurt nodded, “Of course. Anyway, they’re doing Baby It’s Cold Outside and they wanted a boy to sing the girl’s part and a girl to sing the boy’s part.”
“And naturally they picked you.”
“Naturally but now I need to practise.”
“And this involves me....”
“Cause I need a partner to practise with silly,” Kurt replied, “And my first thought was you.”
Blaine nodded, “I think I can live doing that. I should stop doing my homework anyway.”
“You should, your head will explode if you’re not careful.” Kurt said, walking over to his boom box and hitting play.
Blaine smiled and started singing when the song called for it. It was fun, dancing around the room, singing and flirting with Kurt. Though it made him realise one thing he hadn’t before. He knew that he liked Kurt but all this proved was that he had fallen so much deeper than he ever imagined. Sighing as Kurt teased his way around the room, Blaine felt powerless to do anything other than follow him. He thought for a second his head was going to explode when Kurt leant far enough forward that Blaine could feel the other boy’s breathe against his lips. But then it was over. They were sitting next to each other on the couch, trading compliments and just as he got the courage to lean over and kiss Kurt there was a knock on the door.
Looking over he smiled as Mr Schuester entered the room. He wasn’t happy that the moment had been ruined but that didn’t mean he couldn’t be happy that his former teacher was paying him a visit.
Waving at Kurt as he left Blaine turned his attention back to Mr Schue just in time to hear him asked, “Someone special?”
Blaine shook his head, looking wistfully after Kurt, “No, just a friend. But on the upside I’m in love with him and he’s actually gay. I call that progress.”
Smiling as Mr Schue continued to talk he couldn’t help but feel proud that that statement didn’t freak him out. Sure he knew his feelings for Kurt were strong but to admit that he was feeling love for the boy, and not freaking out, was an accomplishment. Hopefully one day he would be able to tell Kurt that too.

The end
