“So this is it?” Chloe whispered.
Oliver nodded, “We always knew that one day one of us wouldn’t return to the other.”
“But you were always supposed to be the one that left, not me.” Chloe replied, “I could stay. I could go with you.”
“You have to go. The time of elves being in this land is over. You heard your father.”
“I did! But that doesn’t mean that I have to expect it.” Chloe responded, “If I had listened to him then I wouldn’t have fallen in love with you.”
“I know.”
Chloe sighed, “What if I didn’t go with you? What if I just waited here for you? I know you’ll return.”
“The journey to ensure that Clark defeats Darkseid is long and I won’t know when I’ll be back or even if I’ll make it. You should have a life outside of us. Have a family. I know you always wanted one.” Chloe nodded, allowing Oliver to place a simple kiss to her lips before he whispered, “It’d be better this way anyway. This way when I die you won’t have to live without me.”
“I’d give up my longevity to be with you forever.” Chloe vowed.
“I know that you would but I can’t ask that from you.”
Taking one last, long kiss from him she whispered her love into the wind as he walked away. Oliver was the rightful heir to the throne of Metropolis. Everyone knew it but until now he didn’t seem to want anything to do with the title or the throne. He was putting his life on the line because he knew it was the right thing to do for the people of his kingdom. She was leaving because it was supposed to be her duty, to one day rule the Elvin people but it didn’t feel right. She knew she was leaving her heart behind with Oliver, to hopefully keep his own beating strong.
Pulling her necklace off she placed it onto the deck, grabbing some parchment and a quill and wrote a note to go with it. Handing the items to one of her servants she followed another to her horse, swinging onto it gracefully. Perched on top she looked out over the palace and its surrounding grounds. This was the place where she had found love. The love of her life and if her father was right and she stayed it would only lead to heartache. A dull thud and a life spent wondering forever, wallowing for the love that she had had.
Of course she had seen another vision. One that brought so much life and joy to her heart that it felt like it could break at any moment from the bliss. There was a boy. A blond haired, green eyed beautiful little boy. He was being swung around by Oliver in such a carefree manner. It warmed her heart and made her believe that her decision was the right one.
Turning the horse away from the path that the others were heading down she allowed it to wonder through the forest, putting greater distance between her and Oliver. It was alright though because she knew, they would have a future together.
And that was all that mattered.
