Disclaimer: Sadly, I don’t own Smallville or any of its character so please don’t sue, I’m just a poor uni students having some fun :D
Author’s note: I know Chloe may seem a little OOC here but this was just been itching to be written since I saw the season 9 special features. During the one about creating of the JSA episodes they producers talked about how Chloe, Oliver and Clark were going to have these epiphany moments but the only one that seemed to stick was Oliver’s which got me think and that led to this.
Anyway, enjoy! And please leave a comment :D
“Judging by the look on your face, I’d say you’re not here for the peepshow,” Oliver said, smiling when he saw the blond in his chair. Tossing the towel across the room he headed towards her. It was a nice surprise to find her here, especially since he had just spent a week and a half away from her. Going to move around the desk he was surprised when she raised a hand to stop him in his tracks.
“I have to tell you something Oliver and you’re not going to like it.”
“Chloe, we are in a ‘friends with benefits’ situation, there’s not much that you can say that I won’t like,” Oliver replied, perching on the edge of his desk, giving her a wide grin.
“You really won’t like this,” Chloe whispered, finally looking up into his eyes, “You hate when the women you’re intimate are just using you for your money.”
“But you’re not doing that, are you?” Oliver asked, suddenly worried about where this conversation was going.
“I’m borrowing money,” she whispered, staring down at her hands, “I’m having green kryptonite weapons produced.”
Oliver looked deep into her eyes before turning away, to look out the window. He didn’t know what to say. It was the first time that he could remember being truly speechless. Sure he had felt this way before, but in this moment he felt more speechless than he could ever remember feeling. He didn’t understand how she could do this to him. She was supposed to trust him and he was supposed to have earned that trust. He thought that’s what their physical relationship meant but apparently not. Apparently it just meant she could steal money from him.
“How much?” he whispered, unsure of where his voice had come from.
“About 6 million dollars.”
“And where did you take it from?”
He heard her sigh before saying, “Why does it matter Oliver?”
Turning towards her he shook his head, “Cause, Chloe, I have to put that money back before someone discovers what you’ve done. Can you imagine what someone like Tess would do with that knowledge?”
Taking his laptop from the desk he sat down on one of his chairs, starting the computer up. He couldn’t believe she would do this to him. Shaking his head he knew it didn’t matter anymore, it couldn’t, he just had to cover up the leak before Tess stumbled across it.
Opening his bank account he looked up at her expectantly, “Well?”
“I took it from the JL incorporated funds,” Chloe whispered.
“And it was six million?” Oliver asked as he started to line up the amount needed to transfer.
“Yeah, I think. I don’t know.”
Rolling his eyes Oliver sighed and changed the number to eight and hit transfer. Watching as the money went across he sighed in relief. Hopefully no one would be any wiser.
Closing his eyes he thought for a second before saying, “Why would think you could just embezzle my money?”
“I didn’t,” Chloe protested.
“You did,” he cried jumping up from the chair, “Don’t you understand. The second you started taking that money without my consent and behind my back you were embezzling. If you wanted to borrow you could have asked me I would have given you the money, from my own bank account.”
“Well I didn’t know that and I didn’t want us facing an apocalypse without being prepared.”
“It’s not about that Chloe. Are you forgetting who the CEO of LuthorCorp is? I might control the company but Tess has access to everything.”
“I didn’t think of that,” Chloe sighed.
“I thought you trusted me. I thought that what this whole benefitting thing was based on trust or do you just trust me with your body?”
“I trust you, I just...” Chloe paused and took a deep breath.
“What Chloe? Help me understand?”
“I started this whole thing before I thought I could trust you,” she whispered, “And then, when I did, I didn’t know how to tell you, so I kept putting it off.”
“So why tell me now?”
Chloe shook her head and he watched her quietly, waiting for a response. Finally she opened her mouth to speak, “Last week Clark had this hypnosis thing where he would make a wish and that person would have to do that. I was told to watch his back and so I did, even when it meant that I had to use meteor rock to stop him from hurting Tess. I realised that sometimes having someone’s back means that you have to save from themselves.”
“And this matters because?”
“Because this morning I woke and I realised that it was time I saved myself. I haven’t always made the best decisions but I’m trying to change. I knew I had to tell you. I have to stop thinking I’m alone.” Chloe whispered, shrugging her shoulders, “I have to start doing something with all these epiphanies I’ve been having lately. I figured this was a good place to start.”
Oliver nodded, “That’s noble Chloe. I hope you can stick to it.”
Chloe gave a nervous laugh, “I hope I can make it stick too which leads me to the second reason I’m here. I want to make Watchtower more hero friendly. You know couches, kitchen, working bathroom. Do you think we can do that?”
Standing Oliver walked over to her, pulling her to her feet before wrapping his arms around her. Resting his head on hers he said, “Ok but this time, everything comes through me. Every inventory, every dollar spent, so I can keep a record and we don’t land in this situation again.”
Chloe laughed before placing her arms around his waist, “I think that can be organised.”
The end.
