“I love you,” Veronica whispered one night.
Logan turned to face her. It was one of the most random things he had heard come out of Veronica’s mouth in a long time. It wasn’t the words that were odd though, it was the fact that she could say them now when they weren’t together, as opposed to not being able to say them when they where. He had been confused when upon her return to Neptune, from her summer in Virginia, she had shown up on his door step saying how she wanted to be friends. From that point on that’s all they had been, friends. A year and a half later it was working out well for both of them or so he had thought. He hadn’t realised that she had been feeling this way.
“Why?” He asked, deciding to find out her reasoning before responding in any way, shape or form.
“Does there have to be a reason,” Veronica replied.
“I guess not. It’s just weird that you say it now.”
“As oppose to saying it when?” Veronica asked a little confused.
“You see, that’s the thing. You’ve never said it before, not even when we were together.” Logan replied with a tiny shake of his head.
“Yes I have,” Veronica protested.
“Name one time?” Logan challenged.
“Well.... There was...” Veronica started trying to remember when but coming up blank.
“The reason you can’t name one time is because there wasn’t a time when you said. I usually asked if you loved me and you usually said yes.”
“Well I love you Logan.”
“Why?”
“Does there really need to be a reason?”
“I know the reasons I love you. So why can’t you name the reason that you love me?” Logan said while leaning back and crossing his arms.
“Well... I guess... I love you because... you’re so strong and passionate. You fight for what you believe in. You’ve been so many things to me, a friend, a lover and an enemy but I know I like it more when we’re together. I love that you know me as well as you do, that you’re always trying to change but you’re never losing who you actually are. Do I need to continue?”
“Well I wouldn’t be opposed to it.” Logan said with shrug.
Veronica shook her head with a tiny smirk before continuing, “How about the fact that no matter how many times life knocks you over you can still get up with the ability to love and trust other people. I wish I could do that sometimes. It would have certainly made us easier the first time around.”
“Ok,” Logan said before turning back to the movie.
Veronica looked at Logan with a mixture of shock and confusion, “That’s it? That’s all you have to say.”
Logan shrugged, “It does feel that good, does it? Saying those words and no one saying it back.”
Veronica sighed and turned back to the television, “I guess I deserve that.”
“Yes I think you do but it doesn’t mean I don’t love you too.”
Veronica gasped, her head turning around towards him so fast that Logan was surprised she didn’t have whiplash, “You do?”
This time it was Logan’s time to sigh, “Of course I do, Veronica. How can you not know this by know?”
“I don’t know.” Veronica whispered with a small shrug, “I just doubt it sometimes.”
“Than you need to stop doubting me,” Logan whispered.
“I think I can try.”
“Ok then,” Logan said with a nod before turning back to the TV.
“That’s it,” Veronica said, a little shocked.
“Sorry did you want more. Maybe something more like this.” Logan whispered before leaning over to place his lips on hers softly.
“That will do,” Veronica sighed against his lips.
