If you care about your fellow countrymen

If you care about health care, people, human suffering, and especially if you don't care about health care, watch this hour-long Special Comment on the health care debate by Keith Olbermann.

Yes, it's an hour, but seriously, watch it. And then contact your congresscritters and demand a robust, trigger-free public option. They *must* hear from us, ( Read more... )

I watched it earlier today: It's some great, powerful stuff.

I appreciate, too, how Olbermann restrained himself from getting too shouty.

I love him, even though he's talking to people already in agreement *sigh*

I'm curious what would happen with the "opt-in" option for public option, in which the states get to choose. If the bill went through in that way, I anticipate a lot of people moving to the states who opted in.

Personally, I'd prefer a single-payer system and get rid of the insurance companies altogether. I don't understand why health is not a fundamental right.

I happen to think it is, and should be, a fundamental right. Kinda falls into the "life" category of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" for me.

... But my worry is, if we give the government the right to pay for our healthcare, we give it the tacit right to NOT pay for it.

Lori is on a slew of meds. I suspect that her medical coverage costs more (between visits, prescriptins, etc) than my income.

I do not want to end up in a situation where a bureaucrat makes the decision that there just isn't the budget to take care of her.

I would also be offended by tax dollars going to pay for liver transplants for drunks, diabetes treatment for the obese (yes, I am obese, I am aware of that), cancer treatment for smokers, etc.

A LARGE part of the reason why I stay at my job is because of the EXCELLENT medical care I get from it, for my wife. I cannot believe that HER medical care would be better under a public option.

Mick.

no, no flaming. You have valid concerns, but...

I do not want to end up in a situation where a bureaucrat makes the decision that there just isn't the budget to take care of her.You are likely one of the lucky ones, but that's what happening anyway. It's just that it's a private bureaucracy and not a public one, and one that has a vested interest in reducing her care in order to maximize profit ( ... )

Hi there!

This is totally unrelated to your post, although I completely agree with you and have lamented about this as well.

I was drawn here from looking around in the corsetmakers community, as I'm doing research on corsetting. I noticed that you had asked equanimity for her corset generator. I bought a corset from her about 6 years ago now and I have loved it well! I want to try to make my own now and I was wondering if you still had this program? I wanted to contact her personally but her journal has not been updated for over a year :(

Thanks <3
