Re 'socialized care'- I think it was Robert Riech was making the point that many people key on the 'socialized' part as BAD while conveniently forgetting that the USA already has -lots- of 'socialized' services (i.e. run by a government) that seem to work well enough. Things like most of the transportation infrastructure (roads, water ports, airports, etc, pretty much everything expect rail). Some municipalities have local power systems (Alameda and Palo Alto come to mind), and the residents of those cities generally are very happy with the service. (Hmm, the rates are 25% lower than PG&E and they answer the phone ( ... )

Hells yeah. If anyone in the U.S. really thinks the current system works, they must be either fabulously rich or amazingly healthy. Bec. if you don't have a lot of money or you have any kind of accident or illness, you get screwed by insurance companies. I don't think it can get worse by adding more affordable options for more ppl.

I lost everything financial wise because my so called health insurance company found a tiny loophole and claimed that I misinformed them, hence my policy was invalid. All my life savings gone, and most of my possessions were sold too.

I just received a letter last month, apparently there is a class action law suit against these bastards, and I am eligible and automatically counted as one of the plaintiffs.

I've been dealing with the same issue: Have health insurance, but with co-payments and only 70% coverage, I not only couldn't pay it, I couldn't pay it in part because I couldn't get an accurate quote for that last 30%.

So this week, I'm changing it. It'll be a race: Can I use so much of it that I top out and they pay 100% after I've cleared 4K? I dunno, but it's less than paying the 5+K over the lasts couple years.

Hope you don't mind, I ran across you while searching for 18th cent. hair stuff (fabulous by the way), and saw this. Just wanted to say nice rant. As the mom of a child with several "preexisting conditions", this a subject that is near and dear to my heart. I wish more people were as informed as you, and took the time to seek out the truth when it comes to the health care debate. After watching this play out over the last several months, I've had to sadly conclude that entirely to many Americans are naive sheep, willing to believe anything their political idols tell them.
