This was supposed to be a simple project, but then I started getting fancier and fancier until it turned into this. I need to order more bones, since I hatehatehate giving money to Lacis, so this project won't be completed for a while yet. Once the bones are in, I'm going to experiment with some black flossing at the ends of the casings ( Read more... )

Purty. What's the design above the string and star/flower?

LJ is borked, not forwarding replies in email. I like it, I'm not sure if I can put a finger on why, but the embroidery looks to me like some kind of sea creature which is singing; it's fun. Is this for a planned event?

they're eeeevil.

In short:
1) lots and lots of Rush Limbaugh in the warehouse
2) when I was interning there to catalog the collection, they did not give me any sort of store discount or pay me, but did ask me to work in the museum and help customers. I left just after that.
3) Their markup is exorbitant. For example, they charge $6 for 25 grommets. I can purchase a gross (144) for $5.50 anywhere else. Plus, I purchased a grommet setter from them, but the gross of size 00 grommets I purchased elsewhere won't work with their size 00 die. They engineered a slightly different size so that you have to keep purchasing their "special" grommets from them. The markup is insane on all of their products. For books, I look at the book there and then buy at retail price or less elsewhere.
4) I believe that the museum is actually a tax shelter for the store.

Do you have an embroidery machine, done by hand, or in the fabric from the start?

LOVE the purple stripeyness!!!! Pretty pretty pretty.
