Nightmare on Elm Street

Allen couldn't sleep. Or rather, he hadn't been sleeping well lately. Not since the incident with Heartless. He was terrified to close his eyes at night, reliving the experience over and over again. He knew the dreams would fade, that everything would eventually go back to normal. It had before, it would again. Still, this was taking it's toll on ( Read more... )

Xemnas has been watching Allen's dreams on occasion. Staying to the shadows and merely observing. He knows it's his handywork--that creature in Zexion's body that caused Allen such pain. He takes pride in the outcome. Though he no longer pulls the strings in their lives, his creation--his parting 'gift' to Zexion--is working out more beautifully than he could have hoped.

But tonight he finaly breaks in. It's a perfect opportunity to plant the seeds of trust in Allen's mind. He slinks from the shadows, raises and ethereal blade, and very calmly pierces the form of the dream creature, watching as it hits the ground. How he wishes to do the same to the real Zexion. To watch his life drain away. He's done so countless times in Zexion's dreams, tormenting the boy. But it isn't quite as satisfying as killing him in reality would be.

He steps over the fallen figure and gently takes Allen's arm with his free hand, guiding him away from it.

"I sensed your heart was troubled and came to see what was causing it. Are you okay, my friend?"

Allen is trembling in his dream. He's shaking and ready to collapse. He stares at the fallen figure but despite his kind heart, he can only feel relief that it's gone. It can't torment him anymore, at least not tonight. He clings to Xemnas's sleeve, steadying himself. Once they've put some distance between the creature and themselves, he sinks to the ground, taking a deep breath. He can handle this, he can be strong.

He gives Xemnas a wary, awkward smile. "S-sorry about that… I've b-been…having bad dreams lately. Th-thank you for taking care of that thing…" If he'd been watching his dreams, he probably already knew that Allen would often scream out for others to come help him but no one ever came. Not even Demyx, his beloved boyfriend, despite having rescued him in real life. He tries to stand to his feet but he's still shaky. "I'll b-be alright… Thank you again, though." And the small seed of trust, which had already been planted last time, begins to grow.

Xemnas kneels beside him, placing a hand on Allen's back, faking concern. His skills at feigning emotions are well-honed and he truely seems worried.

"Your safe now." He assures him. "Has this been what's troubled you lately? I have been attempting to reach your dreams, but my power is not what it once was. I barely managed to get through tonight."

The lies slip free so easily, so naturally, sounding as if they are true.

Allen gulps, hesitating. Honestly, he should be discussing with Demyx first. The only reasons he hadn't mentioned it to him was because he was his best friend and he'd been sure the dreams would fade away soon enough. Still, it's so tempting to talk to someone about it.

He nods slowly, looking down as if ashamed. "Yes…" He admits. "My, my boyfriend Demyx's best friend attacked me recently… I keep dr-dreaming of that incident." He looks up in concern at Xemnas when he lies. "Ar-are you alright? Th-that might have been might fault… I, I tend to keep my m-mind more heavily guarded when I'm feeling vulnerable."
