Do you need to pay for internet?  Or can you use it if there is wi-fi?

7500centfish says I need a phone with access...  But I don't really feel I need it, especially enough to pay for it ( Read more... )

You don't have a phone with internet access?! What are you, a luddite? But yeah, you can use certain phones through wi-fi without an internet plan, but it just seems weird to get a fancy phone without the plan. Ooh, get the new Iphone. Or the new Gphone. Then they'll not only replace your phone and palm, but your mp3 player as well!

I'm a Hudiyo! And I guess I can be a Luddite too... At least I have an mp3 player! I still buy CDs though...

Like I said, to this point I haven't found the need to have internet access on my phone. I mean... That's what a computer is for! I rarely ever get email and I don't have the time to access the net elsewhere. Then I do have my PALM and am able to use it at home / where ever there is wifi (which isn't great... Well it does work in bookstores and hotels) for free so... I've been spoiled.

7500centfish does suggest I have it cause I'm always text messaging her asking her Qs which she uses the phone to get the answer for.

I found a verizon phone that does have wifi, but it's 300 for a 2 year plan... Phones have about a 2 year life for me, so... That's not really worth it, I don't think. But then again, how much in monthly access?

We have Verizon and they're not compatible with the iPhone, right? Dunno about the google thing...

Even though I always have access to a computer at home or work, I do like having the capability of accessing the internet from wherever.

But my plan isn't too bad, $20 for unlimited internet (that includes unlimited texting as well). But that's for the sidekick, I don't know what the plans are for other internet-capable phones.

But yeah, the IPhone is tied to AT&T and the GPhone is T-mobile. I don't know what Verizon's competitor to those kinda phones is.
