Summary: (It is always so fucking trite like that. It is supposed to mean something, maybe, but all that happens is the script and dull dull dull.) Because you can take the man out of ANBU but not the ANBU out of the man.

That was outstanding. You captured the reality of how soul-killing being in ANBU must be. It's dark and haunting - and definitely going onto my favorites list. ^__^

THIS is an Iruka I have never seen, and I love him. He is entirely beautiful and this is an entirely plausible explanation for the occasional seeming inconsistencies in his character. All throughout his thoughts on the lost genius children, I thought of Kakashi (okay, no surprise there, but still... it's something that merits at least a few thoughts *laughs*)and what sort of interaction they might have, together. I keep writing and erasing what I want to say. A part of me wants to say I like this more than TAATYDO... which I want to say is utter blasphemy, but it shows you just how much I adore this. There WAS a lot right, I think. Probably a lot of people won't like this, because they like their Iruka to be sweetness and light. I liked seeing a believable representation OTHER than Iruka is a chuunin and hates killing so he teaches and he's happy and perfect and... blah blah blah. It might be a valid view of him, but it's boring, too. This made me THINK. And before I ramble more I'll stop. (and the line about wishing Juo and Ruri ( ... )

Kakashi is definitely going to come into this more. ^_^ I meant to post the next chapter today, but it'll have to be tomorrow.

I actually haven't gotten any negative feedback on Iruka's character yet. I expect to get a pissy review at some point, of course, but I've been pleasantly surprised by the amount of support this is getting. XD

Normally the "ANBU Iruka" thing isn't really something that interests me, but I've seen a few that I like.

I don't like this one. I love him.

Yes! I don't like ANBU!Iruka, either, which is why I wrote this in the first place. It's a fine line to walk, which is why I appreciate your feedback so much. ^-^ I hope I continue to pull it off - be sure to tell me if anything to come turns you off or makes you go "nnnnn" doubtfully. ^-^
