[accidental voice post]

I know it's been a while since I've called you guys, but this definitely isn't where I meant to end up. Celestial Being was out in space. I hope this is the same safeline, to get a little bit of help. I haven't seen anyone else around and this doesn't seem like a familiar location. I'm not even sure it's somewhere you guys can reach easily ( Read more... )

Celestial Being?

Mister... Your voice sounds familiar, but... Are you new, here?

[A surprised look met Lyle's features almost immediately at the animal talking. He stepped a little closer, bending down to look for strings or any other indication that it was a puppet and Lyra was that skilled.

There wasn't any.]

... That's new.

[Pantalaimon flinches back, but he and Lyra keep glaring at the man, and he keeps speaking.]

For you, maybe. There's a reason people try to make sure anyone new here gets the guide. Now, what do you want to know?

How often do the dead come back?

[With the question posed, Lyle focuses more on the cigarette in his hand.]

[Lyra and Pan exchange a look, before returning their focus to the man, though he shifts around, until she's holding the daemon up against her chest, cradled in her arms.]

You mean if they get killed in the city? That takes about a day. If you mean if someone died in their own world and came here... Well, a lot of people come here alive- and a lot of people come here dead, to. It happens pretty often.

[After the shock of his brother being there, there's another name resounding in his mind. Anew. Was this their chance? He's not about to speak the word yet, but he can't help but find that glimmer of hope within himself. He doesn't show it to her, though. After all, Lyle is good at hiding things about himself. He's an expert at it, even.

He shuffles his feet for a moment, canting his head to the side, but looking appropriately ... uneasy, given the subject matter.]

I think I've already experienced that. This place really likes playing with people that much, does it?

[Lyra's expression isn't quite so childish any more, but it's still rather guarded, and she shifts her weight uneasily.]

Yeah. It messes with people, the curses can make you feel sick after, and no one really understands why it's here, but... Well, at least the ticking goes away if you en't alone.

[She feels her daemon's gaze flick over to her for a moment, and she knows what Pantalaimon wants her to say.]

My name's Lyra Silvertongue. We're sorry for tricking you like that.

The ticking happens all the time, then? I'll have to keep that in mind.

[It's interesting for him to watch the exchanges between the girl and the creature. Seeing something so unusual keeps his mind off what's truly bothering him. But watching, really, is done nonchalantly, with an occasional glance elsewhere as casually as possible.]

Call me Lyle Dylandy. There's a Lockon Stratos running around the City. That may be where you found me familiar.

Yeah. It's why most people like to have flatmates, here.

[Lyra notices, but she's used to curious glances by now, and she probably owes the man some sort of explanation.]

Mr. Lyle Dylandy, then. And this is Pantalaimon- my daemon. We're part of each other.

I can't take you to the exit, Mr. Lyle Dylandy- there en't one, but we can show you around the rest of the city, if you'd like?

So you recommend not living alone. I'll have to get used to that. I haven't lived with someone since junior school.

[He focuses in on the daemon after that, cautiously wondering if he should greet it in some way.]

Nice to meet you, Pantalaimon. And I got a map on this-

[He holds up his cellphone.]

So why don't you show me where I can find a nice meal? I've been living in space for a while.

[Pan just nods his head briefly, and sighs. It's always a little awkward, dealing with humans with their daemons inside of them.]

Ah- There are some good places along the square! They've got stuff no one's ever heard of back in Oxford!

[Lyra's expression is cheerful and eager as she points to a sign down the street.]

What kind of currency do they take here?

[He notes where she's pointing as he asks.]

Coloured coins. The guide ought to explain it a bit more clearly than I could. There are some banks where you can exchange your money, but- I'll pay for the food, Mr. Lyle Dylandy.

Just calling me Lyle is fine. And if you do that, I'll make it up to you and Pantalaimon later.

...

[She shrugs, and starts walking toward the restaurant.]

But you're older than me, Mr. Lyle.

Would you like me calling you little Lyra because of your age?
