Dreamed that I was testing the services at a hotel, working for
webcowgirl. The first test I had to run was testing the gas fireplaces. I had a control panel with four buttons: Off, 1, 2, and 3, each number corresponding to a different place with a fireplace. I also (apparently) had some kind of surveillance system, where I could watch each of the fireplaces and the people around them. All of the fireplaces were off, so I decided to turn them on, one at a time.
The first FP was outside, in the wall facing a balcony. A group of five or six people were standing behind the marble-column railing of this balcony, watching some fireworks and saying "Ooh and Aah" things. I pressed the button, and the fireplace behind them WHOOSHed into activity. They all turned around with a "surprised/delighted" look on their faces, and resumed doing what they had been.
The second fireplace was inside in a lobby-like area. Facing the fireplace was a leather couch, where a parent and child were playing with a stick and a string. This flickered between being the dad and little girl from Dead Like Me (George as a child, if you've seen the show) and being myself and miniBot, playing with his magnetic fishing game. Hotel-testing-me (as opposed to "playing with miniBot me") pressed the button for "2", and when this fireplace WHOOSHed alive, we both hopped behind the couch and peeked at it- it seemed like we were having a good time.
The last fireplace seemed to have been in the suite occupied by
scarlettina. NOTE: It didn't occur to me until later to be creeped out about the idea of surveilling someone's hotel room. She was seated in another leather couch, facing the fireplace, and I overheard her say "God, I wish this room wasn't so cold." I pressed the "3," and her eyes got big as she saw the fireplace WHOOSH on. She looked for just a moment, and then said, "God, I wish I had a hot fudge sundae."
Having completed my test of the fire system, I decided to test room service next. "Room service, please deliver a hot fudge sundae to room X. I'll be checking to see how long this takes you."
