LJ Idol week 8 "My True North"

Age 6. My parents separate and my mother, my younger brother, and I move across town. My new school is twice the size as my old one, and we switch classrooms for English. I've never been on the free lunch program before, and I get scolded for being in the wrong line when I hand the lunch lady my coupon.

It's nice to feel good about where you land. It sucks to hate your environment -- it has such a strong impact on your overall well being. Good for you for making a comfortable home for yourself. I say, you're from wherever you call home. ;-)

There is some kind of myth that we arise, fully formed, out of our past and that we immediately step into what we are as adults. Your life is proof that that is not the way it actually works.

We come back to a police car and her mother yelling about how I should have asked if her daughter could come along. I was practically accused of kidnapping.
/o\ Good grief.

Moving so many times, the volatility of your parents' marriage-- heck even of your parents (On the drive home my mother informs us that we are moving tomorrow morning)... this makes for a very hard childhood, especially if you're quiet and introverted.

I'm glad you've found your place and your people now. :)
