I have a question, and this seems like the best place to ask it. In several fics that I've read, Tony has a "neoprene suit" that he wears while he's in the suit. Is this just fanon or is it from the comics? I've read the novels, but don't remember this being mentioned. Of course, I could have missed it, I didn't realize I'd be writing Tony Stark ( Read more... )

I remember it being shown in the first movie, but I'm not sure if it's in the comics before the Extremis. I don't think it's fanon. I'd double check. Are you doing comic!verse or movie!verse?

Movieverse. I've only read one Iron Man comic, The Demon In A Bottle issue way back in the day. Cos I'm old. lol

This suggests that it probably wasn't the case in the comics:

I think the fandom came to an unspoken consensus that Neoprene (wetsuit material) is the most likely material for the undersheath we see him wearing in the first film. (He's wearing it during "This isn't the worst thing you've caught me doing" isn't he?)

I had no idea that neoprene was wetsuit material. *stores info away* I can't remember, I may have to watch that scene again. Oh darn...

The undersuit he wears is made from the material neoprene. So while that word was never said, you can see him wearing it, so it's canon.

I don't remember him wearing an undersuit, I thought he just climbed in and took off. I get distracted by the pretty.

Yea, in the first movie, when he puts on the suit, he walks out in the under suit.

The motion capture suit that RDJ wears is neoprene... maybe that started it? In he comics, he just wears whatever he climbs into before jumping into the suit. Or, in recent years, whatever his body makes him. (Extremis gave him this really cool exoskeleton suit...)

Whatever his body makes him? *mind boggles*

... Yeah.

Well. The Extremis virus introduced tiny nanomachines into his system that re-wired the way his body works, which I thought it was kind of cool. I mean, he's telepathically linked to the internet now, because of it. So.

But, um, it also gave him super healing powers, since the nano machines just rebuild whatever cells are missing from an injury. But they also let him ... exude a weird metallic yellow suit that the Iron Man suit jumps/snaps to.

"After being critically injured during a battle with the Extremis-enhanced Mallen, Stark injects his nervous system with a modified techno-organic virus-like body restructuring machines (the Extremis process). By rewriting his own biology, Stark is able to save his life, gain an enhanced healing factor and partially merge with the Iron Man armor, superseding the need for bulky, AI-controlled armors in favor of lighter designs, technopathically controlled by his own brain. His enhanced technopathy extends to every piece of technology, limitless and effortlessly (due to his ( ... )
