ETA: la_dame_boheme has pointed out that this is, in fact, a line from the Iron Man novelization, which, BTW, do others recommend? (I'm assuming you can still find it at most bookstores ( Read more... )

Lol, that's in the movie novelization. Yinsen's reaction to it is absolutely hilarious.

Yinsen: "What are you building?"

Tony: "The ring of power. Just wait until you see me start carving elvish lettering on it. As soon as it cools, I slip this puppy on my finger, turn invisible, and walk right out."

Yinsen: "Tell you what: I will ask you the question again, and perhaps this time you will give me an answer that I actually understand. Now: What are you building?"

OMG, I'm even more excited by the fact that this line is pretty much canon. XD

And thanks so much for offering up Yinsen's response. (Reminds me a little of something on Angel, where a timetraveler basically says, "You'll find that your pop culture references have little effect on me.")

I really need to read the novelization, don't I?

There are so many great lines in the novelization. It is actually really good - I've read so many novelizations I can safely say that is not usually the case. Has lots of tasty little minutiae that are often hilarious and the movie can't/didn't include. I rather enjoyed this bit, from the balcony scene with Pepper (slightly edited mainly to get rid of the he-said/she-saids):

"And, Tony? I'm not a cheeseburger."
"No," he agreed. "You're not a cheeseburger."

Oh yes, very much. It's kinda like reading a well written fic, basically. Parts of it may rub a little raw, especially if you're a hard core tony/pepper shipper like me, but it's pretty good, and it gives insight into the characters' minds.

I think the revelation of him being a geek (proof: ungodly amount of time with awesome machines) makes him so very awesome.
