health concerns

I went to the doctor today and they said my blood pressure was a little high. 129 over 80something. I'm freaking out. Why do I have high blood pressure??! I've always been told at the doctor in the past that I have very good blood pressure. Suddenly it's high?! It was lower when I weighed 20 pounds more. When I didn't exercise.  When I ate little ( Read more... )

I'm sure (and I sincerely hope) it's nothing serious, but I advise you to have a full physical as soon as possible. Especially have your urine checked. My brother's kidney troubles all started with high blood pressure. Much higher than yours mind (180 over 120!!). Although, I'm sure in your case it was just some palpitations or something... :) But, yeah, high blood pressure is definitely not to be taken lightly - the cause of it could be just about anything.

Yeah, it's been awhile since I had an actual physical. I don't even remember when... I hardly ever go into the doctor since I'm not really sick all that often (and when I am, it's pretty mild). What I definitely need to have done is a blood draw... *squirms*

I still think your BP is stress related, like Clio and your other friend said. I'm just a bit of a hypochondriac. ;)

I could venture to guess that perhaps it's caused by stress? Don't worry so much, sweetie! They said a little high. Normal blood pressure is approximately 120 over 80. I'm sure it's not going to be a recurring problem. Relax!

I completely second this opinion. Calm down. 129 over 80 is hardly anything to be worried over. I once registered at 139 over 88 after a REALLY stressful day at work... Ten minutes later they retested me at 116 over 79, which is pretty much normal for me. So it's probably just stress. Just try to relax. One high BP is really NOTHING to be worried about. ^_^

Also, Mom is an ex-nurse and wants me to assure you that until your BP is 30 over on systolic or diastolic, (150/110) there is really nothing to be concerned about. She says shame on your doctor/nurse for being so reactive to it.

Actually, it was me being so reactive! She didn't even mention it until I asked what I was, and then when she told me, I asked if it was good and she said, "It's a little high," but I guess she didn't seem concerned. But I got scared since it's usually kinda low. O_O Shame on ME!
