Thank you to everyone who offered advice in response to my post about my naughty kitty. I think that day was actually the worst, and that knock-on-wood, it's getting better

I think the batting-things-off trait is just something cats do. When I first got mine, as a kitten, he would jump on my lap, jump from there to the desk, march over to the mouse, and kick it off the desk. Then he would trot back over in front of me and present himself for petting, visibly pleased with himself. He always had to do the mouse first. It was as if it were in his contract.

I'm glad your kitty is behaving better and that you're heading towards a modus vivendi. He sounds very sweet when he's not anxious or upset -- that kiss on the cheek was lovely!
