Software Engineering

If anyone remembers the CPSC 372 assignment I was working on for several hours without getting much done and then finally figuring out what we were supposed to do and making tons of progress all at once (not my network programming thing that I posted code for) - I got my grade back on it ( Read more... )

You would hate our math department so much.

Dear Lord.

I probably would, our math department is fucking fantastic considering how small the school is.

"I hate this class so much. I don't want to be a fucking software engineer, I want to program. I have talent, I want to use it. I don't give a shit about talking to the user about what they want or designing use case scenarios, I know how the functions will be called and what possible values they could be given and I can program to handle all the cases that it could encounter whether I design a scenario or not. I don't care about making up "actors" or an 'event flow ( ... )

We have incredibly different views on the whole issue of programming and I'll get to this later - about to start doing more work for this same bullshit class.

As to why I got a zero...

Instructions: Do the assignment how I want.
Us: I think we're done...
Grader: This isn't what he wanted.
Professor: I didn't look at anybody's project, here's your next assignment.

Shitty class, are there any other professors teaching it? Is this a tenured old asshat who can't be ousted by shitty reviews? Do you not have a review system? Can you switch out and take it with a different professor next semester and tell everyone else at that school to avoid this professor like the plague and other bad cliches?

This sounds more like a rant towards a horrible class, but it had this whole "I hate this class and will take my hatred of this on crappy class to the entire echelon of software engineering"... hence my analytical protest.

Either way, good luck with this assignment, and I hope the last assignment wasn't worth much.

It's a shitty class and a shitty professor and he's old and tenured and all that bullshit.

This is primarily a rant about the class, but don't get me wrong, software engineering is bullshit.

This is the guy that didn't respond to your emails, right?
Did anyone get a good grade or know what they were supposed to do?

I don't know, I'd tell you to just kill him, but you might do it. :P
I'm sorry, that really sucks.

No, this is a different guy. I got a 95 on the program you're thinking of.

Oh. Well...this guy still sucks.
And I wasn't think of that program.

The more you guys update your ljs the more I'm glad that I'm not in school right now. Of course, in a few years when you're bathing in money and I'm being arrested for burning down a restaurant the tables will have turned, but at least I'll be able to remember how much it didn't suck! :D

Please don't worry about me, I intend to get back on my feet eventually. I just have to do it myself. I cannot accept help and be made to feel guilt again.

No clue. Turns out it was "out of two." Out of two what I have no idea.
